Gustav Rätzel, Berlin, drilling 16/16/8x57IR, made before 1919. The last picture shows the latched box for cartridges in the buttstock, Recknagel*s still made Simplex model.

Not fancy but a wonderful shooting gun by Inman Meffert. 16 ga. 2 3/4" over 8x57 S bore, single set rifle trigger and claw mounted Pecar 4x scope with leather case for over the shoulder scope carry. Have killed several hogs and a couple of Deer with it.
Shoot mostly 187 gr. FPGC cast bullets it it. A small game load is a .330 round ball and 7 grs. unique, this will shoot into an inch at 60 yds. Full choke 16 ga. shoots almost too tight a pattern, would be good for Turkeys but not for upland game.

Nice leverspanner o-u combination! Meffert made a lot of fine and interesting models before the WW2. How much does it weigh?

Try catridges with felt wad instead of plastic in such an old gun. Chokes and forcing cones can also be adapted to modern plastic wads by a competent gun smith.

Thanks, Win88. Without the band of cartridges it weights 6 1/2 lbs. A few yrs back I was at a gun show and bought a wooden case of Remington 16 ga. paper cased
shotshells. The green ribbed ones with high brass and the folded crimp with the
load noted on a disk of paper glued over the crimp, #6 shot. These have the felt wads. 25 boxes for $30. I still have about 15 boxes. These are mostly what I shoot in it.

16x16/9x57r weights 3.1 kilograms or 6.8 lbs

I am currently tring to figure out how to mount a scope on the bases.

Please feel free to post pics of the proof marks under the forend. The proof marks tell alot about the gun.

I haven't taken a lot of pictures of my drillings or combo guns, but here's a couple of my Meffert Dural frame in 16 X 16 over 7 X 57R

I have a Theime & Schlegelmilch on the Nimrod frame in 16 X 16 over 9.3 X 75R Nimrod but no pictures and the tube set is at NECG in New Hampshire for repair. I hope they get it finished in time for deer season 2013!

I have a 1943 field grade and a 1936 fancy Meffert drilling, both are 16x16/8x57JR. I really like the manual pop up front sight for use with the shot gun. I have only seen the pop up front sight on Meffert drillings

A pop up front sight? If it's automatic upon selection of barrels that's a new one to me! If it's manual I've seen pictures of them. I've always admired German/Austrian firearms but only in the last year have I become serious to learn about them....and it has not been nice to the checking account!!!
