A good #4 or one of the Indian #1s in 7.62 would work with the .405.  I think the hard part would be getting the thing to feed.  The SMLE rifle is a pretty stout affair, contrary to the "informed" literatti in the gun rag world.

Yep ... I believe its been done on the SMLE and No4 actions. But as one 'smith said to me when he showed me his pet No4 in 444Marlin ... "if you were paying me to get the feeding right ... you wouldn't be building it!"
Cheers...

Great, now you have me thinking.  I have an 1886 tube fed 8X60R Krochopek.  It looks like a 1871 Mauser.  I wonder if I reload mild rounds it that would work in 405 Win? Cause I am having a devil of a time finding ammo.
Guess I need to play with Cartridges of the World and see if the Over all and rim will work.  I should just sell the thing and stop thinking.

there is a pretty nice P14 enfeild that someone barreled into 405 winchester that I see an all the guns shows up here.  Not a terrible price but I think 700 was a little high.

The editor of RIFLE magazine has a Ruger M77 that has been converted to handle and feed the 405 WCF.

It could also work on the Siamese Mauser.

A good friend of mine from Ohio who is an excellent gunsmith (Legend Arms) built one out of an Enfield and also built a custom stock. Really a nice looking gun and a shooter to boot.

Do you have the contact info for Legend Arms?
