Thanks for the report and good luck on your upcoming hunts.  I'm sending off my tags for archery deer and firearm deer but with working 6 day weeks probably till the end of the year, ther will be no long hunting trips for me.  Just an overniter every now and then.  A little over 2 more years, I can retire, and do some serious hunting.  One of the supervisors I work with has lived the last 20years in AK.  He retires about when I do and is going back up there.  Still has his house there.

I have a standing open invitation to moose hunt ;D, so the Savage WILL get a new 338-06 barrel this winter, sometime.

This caliber does seem like the PERFECT caliber, to me.  Magnum performance without magnum recoil or expense.

I do think, in the short action, that the 338 federal will be a real performer.  It really does match the old '06 with 180gr loads.  Pretty amazing that it took the factories this long to make it.
