Just thought I would do a report on my new encore barrel. I got a .243 win barrel from midsouth and it has performed great! At first I just bought a box of factory remington 100gr. loads, and they shot fine, about 2 inches at 100 yards. But after I got my hornady dies that I ordered, I started loading some 58 gr. vmax's and 100 gr. remington corelocks.
Lets just put it this way, my quest to find a load my rifle liked didn't take long at all. I got half inch groups with the vmax's with the first load I tried, varget at about 3500 fps, and half to one inch groups with the remingtons at 2800 fps, using R19.
I thought that finding a load would take a little while. I will now start venturing into the upper end of the velocity spectrum, as both these loads are on the mild side.
I am very happy with the encore as my first centerfire rifle, and will buy more barrels for it as time goes on.
