Using IMR4320 in the 45/70 Gov't

 Has anyone ever used IMR4320 reloading 45/70 Gov't. I found some reloading data on speers website where they have three loads using IMR4320 and the 300 gr. uni-cor hollow point.Would this powder be safe to use in the H&R handi rifle using this speer load data?

Stick to the Springfield trapdoor and Marlin levels and you will be OK, Stay away from them Ruger #1 loads.

   Yeah the catagory II data for the marlin should be all i need to deer hunt with using the IMR4320 .start with their starting charge of 55.0 gr's under the 300 gr uni-cor hp and work up from there.I would think anything from a velocity of 1583 to 1822 should be fine for a whitetail deer

I wouldn't hesitate to work uo to Speer's ruger data in my Handi(in fact I already have in mine with the 300gr NPP!!) since it's a factory chambered offering from H&R in .450 Marlin at a SAAMI MAP of 43kpsi and .500 S&W at a SAAMI MAP of 50kpsi. I'd use the start load for the their levergun loads and work up to the level you can stand cuz the recoil will more than likely limit your load more than any other issue!!! ;D  The Hodgdon 2006 Annual shows that bullet loaded to 40kcup in their levergun loads which is the H&R customer service recommended level for loading.

   Yepp i got about three pounds of the IMR4320 that i have had a while and the 45/70 would be a good place to use it up .Think i'll stick with the speer load data for the marlin's might be all i can handle ;D

Good idea, them Ruger #1 loads are punishing on the shoulder.
