I am looking for some plans to build a carriage for a small brass mountain howitzer. I would like to make it as historically correct as my woodworking skills will allow. Does anyone know of a source for plans? The howitzer is 75 caliber and about 12" long.

What's the difference between dwf and dwg? I have a dwf viewer and am curious.

dwf (as contrasted with the dxf) is an AutoCAD format for sharing drawings on the web. DXF stands for drawing exchange format - lists each entity's specific characteristics as layer, line-type, visibility, xyz coordinates of starting and ending points, type of entity (as line, pline, circle, arc and many others), color, scale and others. DWF is a simplified format to reduce the size of the database to enable it's use on the web.

So, the question is twofold. Can the dwf viewer in posession display a dxf or dwg file? Secondly, can the source program of the holder of the dwg files produce the dwf format (and are the skills needed to do so available).

I have the dwf viewer because I needed it to critique the floor plans of the house my sister is going to have built later this year.
I also have a "viewer 7" program but don't remember what it's for. I also have "win.rar".
Funny thing is, I've also got about a dozen programs for viewing and/or manipulating photos and videos and only use about three of them.

Viewer 7 is probably CAD Viewer 7 which will display .dwg files but you can't rescale things I don't think. However, if you'll tell me what scale you want, I can rescale it before I send it.

OK, guys, just so you know what I will be sending, my plans are for the stock, the axle and the wheels only. I don't have plans for the metal pieces or implements. If you are building a museum grade gun, you should get the AOP folio (No. 25) on the Mountain Howitzer and Pack Carriage, and some of Nos. 65 through 70 depending if you're building a Prairie carriage.

Typical. One of the factors on which programs survive over time. And then there are some that are very functional with less popular applications that don't make it successfully commercially (but you keep a copy of for use later on).

I took a critical look at the drawings I made for my own use and decided they were not of the quality I would like to send to others, so I am redrawing them to a higher standard. I will make the set to include one set of full size drawings, one set of one third scale drawings (which should be right for a 12" long barrel) and whatever other scales you ask for before I send them out. This is going to take a few days. So if you want a set, PM or email me with the scale you would like and your email address.

By the way, Vern, I like your new handle a lot more than the old one.

The website says 12.25" long with a breech diameter of 2". It is in transit.

I am going to send out my drawings in three pieces, the stock, the axle, and the wheel and its parts, so you guys can get going on something without waiting for all of the material to be recreated. The stock drawing should be finished tomorrow and put in the email for those who asked for it.

I don't have the mechanical skills to make wheels, do you know of a supplier for wheels in this scale? Also, how much do these small cannons recoil?

There is a list of wheel suppliers on the Cannon source list at the top of the board. Don't just look at the their listings for your size. Send them an email an see if they will provide you with the size you need.
