New for 2007, Hornady Ammunition's .375 Ruger.
The .375 Ruger features a standard magnum bolt face, is reported as being the smoothest feeding magnum to date and will be available in 270-gr. SP, 300-gr. IB and 300-gr. FMJ.
"This cartridge is very exciting," said Holt, "it has a 30-06 length case, but its not a 30-06 case. You're getting more performance out of a 20-inch barrel with .375 Ruger than what you'd get with a .375 H&H out of a 24-inch barrel."

They should have used the 375 H&H hornady factory load to get a fair comparison. It would show the 270gr. SP at 2870 and the 300gr.interbond and 300gr. FMJ at 2705. Remington winchester and federal have velocitys at there comparisons. Conley is a little above and there are a couple of other custom ammunition makers producing hotter loads but i believe hornady has the highest.I think it may be a good seller though especially that it could be put into the standard 77 markII action . A stainless synthetic will make a great gun for alaska.That sucks for me as i was hoping ruger would add the 375 H&H to the all weather rifle with winchester stopping production of there model 70's. I guess I'll have to search for a classic stainless somewhere.

Looks like my 375Win in a Ruger#3 could be rechambered for this new cartridge?

But I don't think I need any more power. I fired this rifle last week with the new
1.5 - 5 Leupold scope . Zero at 150, 13.5" low at 250yards, 2" high at 100, 3/8 high at 50,
5.1" low at 200, MV 2225. with Factory SuperX 200gr power point. Accuracy is phenominal. 3 shots 1.5" at 250 yards.

The aiming with the heavy duplex at 250 using a 200yrd HBR target is rather difficult since the x-hair covers a large part of this bulls eye target. so my elevation figures could be off a small amount, but this almost exactly what Winchester says.

Yes Tim, that is the truth, but that is not to say it couldn't be done. Some day I might get a bionic shoulder then I would be able to stand recoil like you guys.

The 375 Win with its 1" Decellorater recoil pad is not at all abusive, even though the gun and scope is not all that heavy at 7-3/4 lbs with a 22" barrel.

Does anybody have any dimensions on the Ruger 375 case?

Looks like a 375 WSM wildcat, 375 Jefferys or 375 Dakota, can't tell much by the pic. Would be a very nice thing to have with factory ammo available. Wonder if it will happen or by like the 416 Taylor that Ruger thought about at one time. I know of one Ruger factory rifle that was produced. I hope it becomes reality.

An article I read says it's 30-06 length, so it's not a WSM based round. Maybe the same dia. but longer. It'll have to be fairly fat to hold enough powder to match the 375 H&H and 375 RUM in power. It's larger in dia than the 300 WM case also.

Too much pressure for more than a few shots, anyway. An SB2 frame may take a round or 2, but it would probably loosen up in time. The .300 win mag experiment comes to mind.

Yeap. I am glad no one was hurt in that experiment, but I have to say....I am glad someone did it. It a good rememberance of what the Handi can handle and what they can't. Not weekness, just modesty.
It's always nice to hear of another cartridge introduction for me. I like options

The 375 Dakota is 2.57" long and 3.3" loaded, 30-06 length and the Jefferys case is 2.85" long so it's out unless it gets cut down. I can't see Ruger doing a retake on the Dakota round but you never know. The shoulder looks fairly sharp around 30°. Maybe Ruger did some magic with the powder or the charge...OR...maybe inbetween the WSM and Dakota.

Probably not so good for the Handi, but I have a old Ruge M77r LA tang model just waiting for something new and exciting to stick in it.

Looking forward to some hard facts about this newby.

You would be hard pressed to beat any of the newer factory loads like this one, WSM, RSUM, etc.....

From what I know of the new cartridge is that it will have the same rim size as the regular magnums so that the same bolts will work. The 375 ruger will be beltless as the picture shows but the case will be .532, so basically it is the same diameter as the 300 win mag belt. I think the rest of the cartridge is based somewhat on the 300 mag necked up. This will open up a whole new wildcat line due to the larger case then a standard magnum.
