Lube on swaged lead pistol bullets?
« on: July 26, 2006, 04:13:17 PM »
When you swage the no-jacket plain lead pistol bullets how do you keep from leading up the barrel? Must use lube of some kind right? There are no grooves so it has to be a spray or tumble type like Alox right? I'm curious if this is something I want to go into. I have swaged jacketed rifle bullets and cast/lubesized pistol and rifle bullets but not sure about the nekkid lead swaged pistol bullets.
What can you tell me?

Yes, I use Lee's Alox or Corbin's Dip Lub.  This is after I knurl (waffle) them in a hand tool. You can also put cannelure groves in them, but I've never done that myself. Corbin Co. sells the tools to do either. Also you can swage on gas checks in the same operation when you form the bullets. A final method to keep your barrel clean using lead bullets is to get a Corbin Base guard punch and put on base guards as an alternative to gas checks. 8)
