Leupold VX-I vs. VX-II is the VX-II worth the additional $
« on: July 27, 2006, 06:44:20 AM »
I am looking at a Leupold VX-I vs. the VX-II is the VX-II worth the additional $100? I will be mounting the scope on a 223/12 ga that will be used for day and night hunting. I am looking at at the 2-7 or the 3-9 variable power.
Thanks
Doug

Yes.  Fully multicoated, 1/4 MOA click adjustments, lockable fast focus eyepiece, tactile magnification indicator, and more reticles to choose from.

In my opinion, yes.

I would agree also.  The VX-II is worth the extra money.

EL, I may be wrong, but I believe that the VX1 also has fully multicoated lenses as well.  However, since I only have the VX1, I can't say whether the VX2 is worth the additional cost.

Currently, the Leupold VX-I has multicoating only on exterior lens surfaces and magnesium fluoride coating on the rest of the lens surfaces.  Leupold calls this standard multicoat.  The VX-II is fully-multicoated with Multicoat 4®.

The real question should be "Is the VX II worth the extra $100 over the Burris FF II?  The obvious answer to anyone who has used both is "no way".  You can find FF II's all day long for around $150.  Best bang for the buck out there.

The VXII has the features of the old Var. XIII so I would say yes, it is worth the extra $100.00.

A new-in-box Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40mm with Ballistic Plex reticle and gloss finish is around $200.  A Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm with Duplex reticle and gloss finish is $300.  If the question is "Is the VX II worth the extra $100 over the Burris FF II?" The obvious answer to anyone who has used both is maybe according to YOUR eyes, but the Fullfield II is a damn good scope for $100 less.

Obviously you see things differently than my eyes do, but that's OK.  You can find the FF II every day on the net for around $160, the best bang for the buck out there in optics. It's not obvious to "anyone who has used both" as you say, as just as many would agree with me.

Grubbs, where can you find the FF II for $150 or $160?  Everywhere I have seen them (Midway, Graf & Sons, etc.) they have been around $200.  I like Leopolds, but if I could get the FF II for $150, I might try it.

Fleebay

I have a pentax WU that is basily a rebadged burris FF2 except it is made in the USA.  I like it a lot.  Never did care for the Leupold reticle.  It is just way to thin for my eyes.  WDO

Look on EBay.  I have bought numerous scopes there with no problems.  You should be able to find one no problem in the price range I mentioned.  Good Luck.

If you are talking about eBay then the Leupold VX-II just closed the gap to about $40 because Leupold VX-II 3-9-40mm scope can be had for $200 on eBay.  A Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40mm for $160 or a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm for $200?  I'd have to go with the Leupold.

The Burris FFII can be bought for $160 plus shipping on the net.  You can PM me and I will give you the web address.  It is a well known company but I don't think they sponor GBO so I won't list it.  On another note, the bad reports I've heard about the customer service with Burris would steer me away.   There has just been too many.  I have never heard of a bad report on customer service with Leupold. Good customer service is worth its weight in gold.  My .002

You are wasting your money on Leupold. Too much cash for what it does. Get you a BSA, save some money and have fun.
