Mossberg SSI
« on: July 29, 2006, 04:58:29 PM »
Has anyone shot one of the Mossberg SSI, I have only seen one and noticed it looks similar to the Ruger #1  but I was wondering about the accuracy and how the quality of this gun?

I have an SSI in 30-06 and besides from being too heavy, a crappy(and too heavy) trigger, a bad crown and hard to open I really like mine. All kidding aside mine came with a super heavy trigger and was a bit gritty, I did a trigger job on it and it is about  5 lbs now. It is still a little heavy but it isn't gritty anymore and is relatively crisp. It has gotten better(easier) to open with usage. Before I recrowned it my best group was 2 inches, now with the same load it shoots consistently 1.25 inch with most everything else 1.5 to 2 inches. It is still heavy and for that reason I won't be carrying it while walking the field all day, it will be a great tree stand gun. The fit is finish is very good on mine. I have the 06 barrel  and a 12 Ga. rifled slug barrel for mine and am looking for a 308 Win barrel. Mossberg told me they haven't dropped it but have put production on hold to bring other projects to market.
I think it was dropped for lack of sales and won't be back. I do like mine and am glad I bought it, did I mention wished I had a 308 Win barrel for it? LOL
