Encore scope bases?

I just got a new .308 factory rifle barrel for my Encore. I already have a 20ga. rifled slug barrel  with a Weaver one piece base on it. From all the searching I did of sites and on-line catalogs it appears to me that this is the same standard Weaver base for T/C rifle barrels. Is that true? I wanted to put the scope from the 20 ga. on my rifle and get a new one for the 20 later. I also noticed that when mounted there is a slight gap under front of the mount between the barrel and this is more pronounced when placed on the rifle barrel. Is that normal? What is the proper part number for the Weaver base for the slug barrel and for the rifle barrel? I guess that is the proper question to ask.
Also, what is your opinion of the Bushnell Banner 1.5X4.5 scope for the 20 ga. slug barrel. It presently wears an Elite 3200 2x7; but that is going on the .308.

I presume you're going to leave the Weaver base on the 20 guage barrel and get a new base for the .308 barrel.  In that case, all you need is Weaver style rings which will interchange with the bases.  I believe, however, that the bases for the two barrels are the same.  Get a dial indicater and check the diameter of the respective barrels where the scope goes and then you'll be sure.

The gap between the barrel and the front of Weaver bases is normal.  If you don't want the gap, get Duo Rings from Thompson/Center.

I'm going more toward Leupold scopes especially with heavy recoiling calibers.  I would say, try the Bushnell Banner scope and if it breaks, try something else.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured the bases were the same as the only different one I found was for the 12 ga. slug barrel which of course would have a much larger diameter. Good idea to give the Bushnell Banner a try. I had a real cheapo Simmons on an 870 12 ga. and never had a problem and the Banner is huge step up from that Simmons. Can't wait to start shooting the .308. I'm going to try various factory loads in 150,165, and 180 weights to see which it likes best. I really want to try the Federal Fusions out. But for deer and the possible black bear I think a good 150 would do and there are quite a few choices to pick from.

I see them as about the same.  I have an Elite 3200 on one of my rifles and it is great.  But the Banner is a low end scope.

I just tried on every base made for the Encore incuding the Talley.  The only choice for me was the Warne solid steel base.  Its elegant nuke proof and had more distance to spread the rings.  Good points one and all in a scope base.

Actually, I use Thompson/Center Duo Rings in the stainless steel version on my 460 S&W Mag. and they're holding up just fine.
