We're having a bad drought.
« on: July 30, 2006, 03:31:12 AM »
The creeks, stock ponds and small lakes around here are drying up at an alarming rate.Any remaining water will really concentrate the furbearers.I remember years ago trapping coyotes during a drought like this and the remaining water was a sure thing until it snowed.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Yotero,  having same problems in my area and  coon like to drink after filling up in farm fields before  bedding down and farm ponds good place to trap unless dry and then they head for creek OR around farm building if water is available.  Each situation is differant and in real arrid places water is a key draw and set place.

We got a nice little rain last night.About 1 1/2 ".Saw 7 little coon on the road with momma headed to a spring last evening.I've never seen over 3 or 4 young with a sow before. We don't have many coon but they sure get big.Every year I seem to catch a few big boars in coyote sets.Usually with coyote gland lure or a meat based bait.Never in any skunky lured sets.
