What 50cal conical would you recommend for elk out of a TC Omega? Hornady Great Plains 385gr. Buffalo Bullet 385gr. TC Maxi-Ball 370gr. Ultimate 1 Keith nose bullet 400gr from Precision Rifle. Other? I have no experience with any of these.

Shilo,  I have taken 10 to 12 elk over the past 15 years with the 385 gr. G. Plains and 90 gr. of Pyrodex, using my TC Hawken.   I tried  the Great plains in my Encore and got a 3'' group at fifty yards using Trip 7 and the factory open sights.    I guess this is what I'll take to Colo. this yr.   My brother has taken about the same number of elk using patched round balls and calls my conicals "high plains drifters".  Most of our shots are 75 yards or less so accuracy is not an issue.  I do remember my brother shooting a bull twice before it went down and a cow three times. When he's excited, he can reload really fast!     We have never lost an animal hit in the lungs.  I have shot whitetails with 265 gr. power belts that blew up so I shied away from the power belts for elk.  I'm afraid to try something new when I have something that is working.  Hope you find a good bullet, then post your success story.

I use a TC 350 gr Maxi Ball (cast 1-16 in TC mould) over a lubed felt wad (WonderWad is ok) and 90 gr (V) FFG 777. Velocity is 1525 fps and 5 shots (preloaded into TC speed loaders) without cleaning between shots go into 2 1/2 MOA at 100 yards time and again.  Rifle is a TC BLK Mtn Magnum .50 with post front and TC aperture rear sights.  That kills elk quite dead.
