Ladies & Gentlemen
I purchased my FIRST Taurus product last year. I have a Gaucho in 45 cal with a 5 ½ barrel. I noticed immediately upon receiving it that it shot about 3 inches left at 25 yards and also that the cylinder bushing “fell” out of the cylinder when it was removed.
I called your facility to discuss the problems but the day I called you were just getting your power back on from the hurricanes and I said I would call back later. I did that and was told that if I sent the gun back it would be repaired.
I took it to XXXXXXXXXXXXXX where the gun was purchased and they were good enough to send it back for me.
It was returned with a Service Dept Invoice (SO# XXXXXX) with no payment due but with the Gunsmith comments that the firearm needs to be cleaned after every use, you recommended not using reloaded ammunition and that the bushing was supposed to be loose and spin and a drop of heavy grease will keep it in.
First – the gun was spotless when you received it since in the 50+ years I have been shooting both competitively, instructively and for recreation, my firearms are cleaned either at the range or immediately upon returning home.
Second – The gun was fired with PMC “Cowboy” loads. I assumed that ammo was appropriate.
Third – Upon comparing with several of the same models, it was noted that about half the bushings were tight and half loose.
Fourth – The resolution on the sheet says the barrel was adjusted. Baloney, the front sight was bent to the left. I thought of that first but figured that was pretty amateurish and the manufacturer would have a better solution than putting a crescent wrench on the sight and bending it.
In summary, I am almost insulted by the comments about ammo, cleaning and sticking parts together. It would have seemed that the gun could have been repaired professionally or admit you don’t know how to get it to shoot straight; but shade tree mechanics and blaming the customer wouldn’t have been my approach.
Finally, the gun is looking for a new home and will be replaced with a Ruger which is what I should have started out with. I have a friend up here that has sent 2 of these guns back twice to your facility and with similar results. In fact the first time he sent them back they had consecutive serial numbers but he did not get them back.
Being a competitive shooter as well as a NRA Life Member, NRA Instructor and Training Counselor, 4-H Coach, Board Member and Editor of the Georgia Sport Shooting Assn, I will have an opportunity to share my “Taurus Experience” with whomever asks.
Thanks for your time
