Bought a 44SS6 and a 66SS6 virtually at the same time, May 2006.

44SS6 - needed to be sent back to Taurus because every now and then the cylinder would not index on SA.

66SS6 - needed to be sent back to Taurus because cylinder did not lock. Could close cylinder and spin the cylinder ... a bit of a worry that something so very, very basic could get through quality control ... maybe the inspectors seeing eye dog was asleep that day.

On the plus side both these guns were fixed under Taurus' lifetime warranty at zero cost to me, not even shipping and both are 100% now with about a 4 week turn around which is not too bad. Both are great revolvers to shoot, now.

Also I have a PT92 bought back in 2001 and that is a great gun. Never had a misfire or misfeed on any ammo put through it. Its a great gun. The pistol and the revolver factories are two different locations and the PT92 is 5 years old and maybe quality was better then ...

Will I ever buy another Taurus? ... no way, you could not pay me to take one off your hands!

I have a SS PT92, and other than the price, can't tell the difference between it and the Beretta (M9) we shoot at work.

I also have the 44 mag Raging Bull and absolutely love it!  It has the 8 3/8" ported barrel and shoots like a dream.  It's been my "go-to" gun for the last several deer seasons.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

I have an M-44 SS 8 3/8" and a PT-92 SS. Both of these guns have been perfect for me.

Have owned 5, three revolvers and two semi autos. Still have two revolvers. Wish I had my Tracker .41 Magnum back and PT145 back. Didn't like the PT140. Mine was very inaccurate. Never had a problem with any of them and would buy another.

My 431 is on its way home from its second trip to Miami...  The first trip was to cure the cylider binding in DA and missfires.  The second trip is to hopefully cure the fixed sights shooting to the left, that should have been fixed on the first trip.  A local gun smith turned me away saying he'd would not touch it for fear of breaking it.

Hi to all Taurus people, & those who have not learned yet. I have 3 Taurus revolvers. One 608 W/ 8 & 3/8 " bbl, Plus 2 617
w/2" bbl. One 617 SS  & one 617 Titanium. I am very happy with my Taurus guns. Bare in mind I am 81 yrs old, have owned many S&W always were my very favorite. S&W are still the best, but don't sell Taurus short. They took the S&W gun & improved its design. I do have one advantage I have ability & knowledge to do my own revolver maintaince & repair.

I have a model 607 in .357, 85 in 38 Spl and a Raging Bull in .454.
I think they were of good quality until about 3 years ago when quality became hit or miss, I think you can still find one's of good quality, but you need to look the gun over. The exception seems to be the Raging Bull series of gun's, I have yet to see one of poor quality.
That has been my experience with Taurus anyway. I tend to look at other brands now, one in particular that I had sworn off due to company policies.

Nope, it's S&W. I used to buy pretty much only S&W revolvers until the "agreement" I recently changed my thinking on that stance for a number of reasons, but the main one is that I need my revolvers to be reliable all of the time for the safety of myself and family and I just dont think I can expect that from Taurus anymore.

I bought a Taurus 24/7 DAO 9mm pistol for my wife. It is comfortable to hold, functions smoothly, and is accurate.

The thing that I keep hearing on MANY message boards is that Tuarus revolvers ALL have bad main springs and have inconsistant ignition in DA. These are accounts of peoples experiance not hearsay. This to me is a BIG problem because if you pull out your gun at a time when you need it and it doesnt work that could be very bad. I feel like Im on a rollercoaster one minute Im ok with my Tracker and then I read 3 more posts saying the same thing" light primer strikes" in double action. That's not a good quality in a back up gun.

I was told that WOLFF gunsprings is the way to go. It looks like for $4-$8 you can replace the main spring and a few bucks more you can get a smoother trigger pull. I guess the steel is of good quality. I may just replace before I run into problems. As far as cylinder lock up the ONLY gun I have had that locked up and the ncould not unload it before a gunsmith got to it was a .38spc S&W, I forget what model, was a friends, but it looked like a small 629. He takes good care of his guns and .38 dont pond you so something just failed on it.

Revolvers are okay. Some are even better than their S&W counter-parts.

I'd have to think twice before trusting my life to one of their autoloaders.

I 've had a model 94 22LR revolver for about 12 years.  This gun had a deffective rear sight that would wander with recoil, and also it would misfire about 30% of the time in DA mode.  Sent it TAURUS and got it back within 2 weeks with a new rear sight, and new hammer spring, and it has been 100% ever since.  I also have owned my model 44 with compensated 6.5" barrel for over 8 years and this gun has been 100% the whole time.  OT but I also have a ROSSI model 971 4" barrel 357 mag revolver for over 15 years and this gun also has been 100% reliable and accurate.  Brazillians do make decent guns for the buck in my experiance.

I just got my 431 back from Taurus Friday and it is already on its way back to Taurus on Monday, at their expense.  I got this gun NIB old stock two years ago.  Sent it in to have the barrel properly aligned so it would shoot to point of aim with the fixed sights.  Came back with the barrel properly aligned, thank you, but the ejector rode was bent keeping it from locking the front of the cylinder / ejector rod / stud in the shroud.   >:(  When I called to arrange to get it fixed, again, they all but accused me of damaging the ejector rod.  Also, said that since this was an OLD gun I was not entitled to the same terms of service as a new gun, under the Life Time Guarantee, but they would help me this time.  If they do not sort this gun out this trip, this will be my last Taurus EVER.  I buy one or two guns a year, so I am sure they will survive without my business.

A letter just sent to Taurus........

Ladies & Gentlemen
I purchased my FIRST Taurus product last year.  I have a Gaucho in 45 cal with a 5 ½ barrel.  I noticed immediately upon receiving it that it shot about 3 inches left at 25 yards and also that the cylinder bushing “fell” out of the cylinder when it was removed.
I called your facility to discuss the problems but the day I called you were just getting your power back on from the hurricanes and I said I would call back later.  I did that and was told that if I sent the gun back it would be repaired.
I took it to XXXXXXXXXXXXXX where the gun was purchased and they were good enough to send it back for me.
It was returned with a Service Dept Invoice (SO# XXXXXX) with no payment due but with the Gunsmith comments that the firearm needs to be cleaned after every use, you recommended not using reloaded ammunition and that the bushing was supposed to be loose and spin and a drop of heavy grease will keep it in.
First – the gun was spotless when you received it since in the 50+ years I have been shooting both competitively, instructively and for recreation, my firearms are cleaned either at the range or immediately upon returning home.
Second – The gun was fired with PMC “Cowboy” loads.  I assumed that ammo was appropriate.
Third – Upon comparing with several of the same models, it was noted that about half the bushings were tight and half loose.
Fourth – The resolution on the sheet says the barrel was adjusted.  Baloney, the front sight was bent to the left.  I thought of that first but figured that was pretty amateurish and the manufacturer would have a better solution than putting a crescent wrench on the sight and bending it.
In summary, I am almost insulted by the comments about ammo, cleaning and sticking parts together.  It would have seemed that the gun could have been repaired professionally or admit you don’t know how to get it to shoot straight; but shade tree mechanics and blaming the customer wouldn’t have been my approach.
Finally, the gun is looking for a new home and will be replaced with a Ruger which is what I should have started out with.  I have a friend up here that has sent 2 of these guns back twice to your facility and with similar results.  In fact the first time he sent them back they had consecutive serial numbers but he did not get them back.
Being a competitive shooter as well as a NRA Life Member, NRA Instructor and Training Counselor, 4-H Coach, Board Member and Editor of the Georgia Sport Shooting Assn, I will have an opportunity to share my “Taurus Experience” with whomever asks.
Thanks for your time

I have three Taurus autos; PT99 AF, PT145, PT940.  All three are accurate, easy to maintain, and reliable.  I think that they are great for the price.

I generally carry the 940 or the 145.  The 99 is too big to conceal easily.

I have one a raging bull 454 and it is starting to cut on the frame from the powder blast and it still shots like a champ they are better than what people say. I get bullseye accuracyat fifty yrds and very decent groups at 75yrds.They say they will fix it even if it comes to the frame replacement.

I own a pile of handguns but only one of them is a Taurus. If all them were like this one I would think they were the greatest thing since light bread. It is a 441 with a 4X Redfield. I have taken several deer with it. It consistently shoots under 2" at 100 yards. Here it is. relfex264

I have 3. a titanium .38 snubbie (I think it's a model 85) an M44 44 mag. in stainless with an 8 3/8" barrell, and a PT111 polymer 9mm carry gun. they have all been perfect for me. I have a friend however that has had nothing but trouble with His Taurus .357 (Timing is way off)
