Hornet Help Please
« on: August 01, 2006, 05:13:59 AM »
Hey gang,

I may get a NEF .22 Hornet for a walking varmint rifle & swamp small predator rifle.  I see it has a 1-12 twist.  Can someone recommend factory ammo it shoots well.  Maybe asking to much but I would like to see moa to 1.25" 5 shot groups at 100.  I am intersted in the 35 gr V-Max and 34 gr Winny Supreme loads along with any less costly heavier mushrooming stuff it may shoot well.

Weaver bases?

Tips and tricks to watch for?

Thanks  :)

You would do well for yourself to check out the FAQ and Help sticky, base info is in there as well as accurizing and cleaning tips for all Handis. Can't help ya on the hornet factory loads, never tried em, with handloads, sub moa is easily attained.

Thank you,

What grain hand loads does it prefer?  That gives me a ballpark for factory.

I use the 35gr Vmax, but others find the 40gr good too.

Thanks again,
I ordered one from my gun shop and it will be here tomarow.  I am just putting a 4-12x40 Bushnell Banner on it.  I will try some of the Hornady 35 gr V-Max factory stuff.

I have owned some very nice rifles but like bargins too.  Ever since I bought a NEF Turkey gun (no intendtions, just walked out with it because of the price  :)). I have kept my eye on them.  I like high quality but bargins to.  It's the middle stuff I have problems with.

Hope this one is a shooter .........

We'll look for a range report on the factory loads.  It might be interesting to see if the Hornets are as accurate as Win white box in .223!  ;D
