Old model Ruger Bearcat hammer?
«

*I have posted this in the Rimfire Handguns forum as well:
Anybody have one they will part with?
According to my gunsmith my Old Model Bearcat hammer has a broken half-cock notch. The cylinder will not freely spin for loading and unloading. He says the best thing is to send it back to Ruger for repair/replacement... and that Ruger will convert it to the 'improved' hammer version.
I'd be willing to do that just to get the gun operational again, but in truth would prefer being able to keep it as original as possible by replacing the hammer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Tallyho,
ask to have the hammer replaced and that if they have to convert it tell them you want the old parts back (including the new hammer) They will comply if they have any hammers for it. If notyou may be able to repair or replace the hammer some day. As long as you have the parts you can convert it back with little effort.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

Thanks Paul. I will ask the factory if they can provide another hammer. I'd like to have the gun working again, and if it comes back 'improved' I'd take it like that for now, and make it original later.
Cheers
