Tryon--- Buffalo brand made in Phila, PA...???
« on: August 01, 2006, 06:22:16 PM »
Howdy Ya'll,
I am hoping to find out some info about a single shot that an older gent is offering to sell me.
It looks alot like an NEF handi rifle, but it's not.
It's manufacturer Is TRYON, the brand BUFFALO, made in Philadelphia, PA.  There are no other proof marks other than cartridge.
It has a 20 gauge barrel with mod choke and a 30-30 barrel, tapped with rifle sights.
It appears 1970's vintage but the name doesn't show up in any of my gun books nor does google find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Side Note;
Hope this might help your start in locating more info on that gun......Good Luck....<><.... :)

"In the 1960's Tryon Supply Co. in Philadelphia, Pa. had a pair of smoothbores, one in flint and the other in percussion hanging on the wall in Joe Tryon's office, visible from the shipping desk in the pick up and dock area, never thought much about it at the time. Several years later I finally realized what I was looking at and then started asking questions why the weapons were hanging in his office, figured Joe was a collector, no, they were samples of the firms first venture in firearms. Oh, TRYON now the light came on, (Tryon farm guns) the firm we got power outdoor equipment from ( lawnmowers) was the same hardware firm that produced trade guns for the Board of Ordnance during the Westward Movement, small world - dah."

Yeah, I googled the heck out of it but find no reference to the Buffalo brand of firearm in the more modern era...
