What were you thinking when you said you were no longer a member of the NRA ? What in Gods name does GW or the unions have to do with you belonging to the NRA ? Obviously you have the patch on the wrong eye, With all the liberals waiting for a chance to kill the NRA seems like a very poor outlook to me. The NRA has been here for us longer than the unions or GW. I wish you would rethink your decision. Our freedoms are in jeopardy and the only hope we have is to keep the NRA strong. This is no laughing matter. Most of the Union members are members of the NRA also. I have been a union man for most of my life and am also a BENAFACTOR MEMBER OF THE NRA--- Life Member since 1950. I really wish you would reconsider your decision and be a loyal member of the NRA, It will pay great benefits in the end. Your friend and loyal member of the NRA........Joe............

I'm a vested carpenter, and union steward. I agree totally with the democrat/republican split. A part of our dues goes to political funding, mostly for the democratic party. I asked the business agent what if I'm a republican and he said " I don't want to know about it."
In support of the unions, if it weren't for them I would probably make ten dollars an hour less than I do. However I am not naive enough to believe all the bs they try to feed me. As for the pension, it isn't much more than a supplement to social security, if that's still around when I retire in twentyfour years, but I keep my insurance which is more important than the few dollars I would get.

if you can,, you all should look into SCI.1st for hunters...they have annual and life memberships also.

I have a love/hate relationship with the NRA. The NRA's endorsement of Arlen Spector over a solid pro-second amendment candidate caused me to leave a while back and join the Gun Owners of America. I do like GOA's no compromise approach. I recently and reluctantly joined the NRA again since the club I belong to encourages it.

The only shooting club in our area REQUIRES you to belong to the NRA. They can do that, it's a free country, but so far I've been free not to join even though I am an NRA member. I just don't like it shoved down my throat like that. Plus, membership is kinda steep . . .

I'd been a yearly / annual NRA member ($35.00) for several years before the gun club I've belonged to since the late 80's went mandatory 100% NRA membership to join or belong a few years back.

To save a few dollars I switched over the the NRA's Liberty / Asscoiate Membership a few years ago, it's only $10.00 per year and I'm currently paid up through 2008.

With the Liberty Membership I don't get to vote in the NRA's officer elections, which I never did as a regular yearly memeber anyway, nor do I receive either of the NRA magazines but between the magazine or two I currently subscribed to and the internet I still stay pretty well abreast of things.

Oh, and when I said "membership is kinda steep," I was refering to the shooting club, not the NRA! They like to keep things exclusive. They don't want just any redneck with a gun being a member! They hate it when folks show up with Savages and Swedish Mausers and outshoot their high $ guns!

I had a little to pay on my easy pay life membership. Okay a lot to pay. But the rep at the convention said if I pay it in full I can still get the leather jacket Did a side job for a recording studio last week and it's just enough to pay it off!

Now the guy I'm supposed to contact is on vacation!

He'd better get back before I buy that taurus 1911.

Lloyd, You are a good man, I forgot to mention that i was a steward on most of the jobs i was on and most of the men where i worked were NRA members. NRA all the way...........Joe...........

I tend to be a bit more to the right than republicans.... there just isn't muh difference between the R's and D's anymore. I vote Libertarian, believe in the constitution, NRA Life Member, I am a minister, and before I was disabled a two time shop steward.
That must make me some kind of alien.

I just signed up for a 5 year membership. It's something I've considered for a while. Finally had the money to pay for it. I'll probably bump it up to a Life Membership later on.

Was first an NRA member when I took hunters safety. '72?
Became a Lifer a few years back.

I have been a life member since 1964. I dont always agree with the way they always want donations but one has to realize that they need money to fight the antigunners. If a good number of the gun owners in this country would get off their apathetic behinds and join we would not have to worry about defending the second amendment anymore.

I realize I'm in the minority here. but that's life. I dropped my NRA membership, because I felt the NRA was speaking out of both sides of their mouth. They tell us they are FOR our Rights to carry a gun , BUT they hold their National conventions in
cities where it is illegal to carry a weapon and protect myself and my family. Examples, Kansas City and Milwaukee. I felt like if they REALLY wanted these big cities to get the message they would protect the lives of their members by ONLY going and taking their money to cities and towns that say, "We want your good citizens with guns to come to our towns". I kept my
membership in the TSRA, Texas State Rifle Association.

So blast away guys, it's just the way I feel. For those of you from Kansas City and Milwaukee, I have nothing against you are the towns, it their politics. I feel like I would be a hypocrit by being a member. Furthermore, I called and wrote the NRA and their answer was nothing, they totally ignored me. So they don't get my money!

Go a head and ride on our coat tails. But do cry when you just stood by and watched your gun rights go away. In my opinion you gave up your right to complain. Just my opinion..

Your coattails would't do me any good, seeing as how I weigh 300+#, TSRA is the NRA'S largest state chapter.
They look after my gun rights just fine.

Wher's your comment on the NRA and their stand and how they treated me?

Well here is my comment, I don't know what you said or how tactful your were in your questions to them. But I have never had a problem communicating with the NRA or even getting return phone calls. I have only your side of the story here to make judgement on.

Also, I think the NRA's present's in towns that don't support gun rights is a good thing. They are there campaigning for our gun rights, have you ever gave that a thought?

I apply the 80-20 rule to such things. If I can agree with 80% of what they do, then they're OK. What astounds me is the number of enthusiastic shooters who don't realize that there are no other effective organizations lobbying for 2nd ammendment protections.

Sir, I called and emailed both the NRA and NRA-ILA, simply and POLITELY ask them to comment as to why it is found necessary
to go to states and communities that don't allow licensed, law abiding citizens to carry to protect themselves and families.
The young lady at ILA said, we need to "spread it around, being fair to all areas. I asked the young lady why they couldn't go to MI, right next door to WI. She then said she would have someone contact me, it never happened. The NRA, sent me an auto reply by email saying someone would contact me, that never happened either.

Sir, MONEY SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS EVER DID!! By having the convention there, the NRA is saying very loudly, that it's OK to ban law abiding citizens.

Sir, do you have a license to carry? If you did you might understand me better.

Yes, I do have a CCW license. And I still don't see your point. The NRA can only do so much, it is the law makers you have a problem with. Remember the people of these States elect there representatives, and they are the ones that make the laws concerning gun laws not the NRA. As far as the response from the lady with the ILA, seems she gave you a reason why they go all over. But as far as a return phone call, just remember they receive thousands of phone calls a day, and maybe they just over looked or missed your request. I can't make excuses for them, but why don't you take the initiative to call them back instead?

And what in the world does having a CCW make ? If you could, Would you please explain that to me " I must be the worlds Biggest dummie " because i sure don't understand " I too have a CCW " and belong to the NRA and have for more years than you have been on this planet. I wonder if you really feel this way or you just seeing how much crap you can stir up, If that is all you are doing you might go to one of the ANTI-Groups and let off some steam there. If you trully feel that the NRA is a waste of your time and money why don't you sell your guns to a good NRA member and join one of the bridge clubs that flurish in the great state of Texas.

I'm a member of the NRA. Can we find little things that we don't like in any organization? Probably.
Overall, the NRA has done a great job in many area's, including young people, the Olympics, and have protected the rights of gun owners when and where they can.
Bottom line is, if people want more, vote at the LOCAL level. I hear talk of wanting the NRA to force States to have CCW rights...got news for ya, if enough people can get together and VOTE at all levels and make their voices heard, it does wonders. I live in Michigan. Michigan did not always have CCW rights. A large and determined group of people got together and made our voices heard. They even found out which one of our representatives here were packing pistols themselves, and published their names! Guess what, it was both Democrats and Republicans carrying them, once exposed in the news papers, they were interviewed and asked if they thought they should be the only ones who can protect themselves.
Of course they said no. Then a bill was slapped on their desks within a couple of weeks of this exposure. It passed....of course. The people bugged them to no end for many years before this. Some counties let people carry, some did not, since CCW is a State permit, we had people tugging at this in court rooms also. Fought the whole time to get the CCW permit.
The NRA can't do that for you, the people of each State must fight the battle too. The NRA has done a great overall
job over more years than i have been alive. Sure, a few things bug me, but I'm not ready to lose one of the big voices out there over a few minor problems. I support other pro gun groups as well.
In the end...the people in each State must make the differece, putting in your own spare time to help. Sitting back and waiting for someone else is not the way. Challenge your representatives, challenge your laws in court if possible, write letters to the people who vote for you. Lots of letters, and get others to send lots of letters.
The NRA did not visit Michigan, this is true...but we got our CCW laws on the books anyway. The NRA was backing us, we know that, but WE did the work here.
Now that over 40 States have CCW laws, the door is open for others, plenty of ammo to use for your cause now.

Get out there and kick some butt.

Very well stated, I have been active in the NRA for many years and know the frustrating felling people get when they bang their heads against the wall and nothing comes of the hard work that has been done. One thing i must say they do way more good than they do bad. Keep up the good fight fellers and we will succeed in the end..........Joe...........
