Sorry guys I have been away for a long time and see that I have a couple of questions in regards to the gun/holster.

I see the pic's have disappeared as well so I'll fix them up as well.

Here's Mernickle's web site http://www.mernickleholsters.com/

The link to the cross draw holster http://www.mernickleholsters.com/fc/fc13r2.html

Here is the link to the newest holster that I bought from Bob http://www.mernickleholsters.com/sh/sh7b.html I had Bob change the design a bit and had him put a thumb break onto the holster for me exactly like the cross draw above.

Thanks for posting the pics.  Great looking son you have.  My 18 month old daughter has started wearing my hearing protection and going with me to scout deer.  So I am thinking is she old enought to go hunting... Just kidding...

One of my first S&W's a 29-4 Classic Hunter.

Hey Broom Rider..i know this is an old post, but could you please tell me what mount you are using on that 29-4 Classic Hunter?  It appears from the pic that the base allows for the rear sight to remain installed..or is it just the picture?

Thanks..Shultzy

The mount on the 29-4 is from SSK and it's the one they call T'SOB. It's mounted with 3 screws into the barrel.

Joni, I like that one. Looks like you've got quick release rings also, so you can go to iron sights in a hurry?

Yes I do have Leupold quick detach rings. I had to modify them a good bit to work on the SSK base.
Prior to that I had a Burris 1.5x4 mounted in the 3 rings provided by SSK, and then when that scope broke another one after it. Next was an Aimpoint until it came apart and now the 30mm Ultradot. If it breaks this one I don't know what to put on it.
I had a local gunsmith mill a groove down the center of the mount so I could sort of use the factory sights. He also made a very nice under cut Patridge blade for me.

A lot of the ammo was factory stuff. Federal American Eagle 240 grain. My handload is a Sierra or Remington 210 grain behind a reasonably stout charge of WW296. It's below the max charge as listed in the Sierra manuals and quite fast.
I've gone through a bunch of Burris 1.5x4 scopes on my 375JDJ Contender, they just seem to have a short life span.

Is it my imagination or are Broomriders custom grips a more upright angle than the norm?
Reason I ask is because I find most grips are on too much of an angle for my natural hand angle so with an instinctive grip I would shoot guns like the 686 about 6ft high at 10yds.

My old 629-1.  I've never photographed a firearm before, but I wanted a picture for this thread.  So I pulled out a Pentax 6x7 of the same vintage as the revolver and set it up in the studio.  The film just dried a few minutes ago, so here's a scan.

Though it's not double action, it was my first revolver in 1967 and also my first attempt to photograph a firearm today, so the following is submitted for your review:

Another 629-1, recently acquired.  Grips are Eagle's ebony "Secret Service," something I'd been curious about how they'd make for a square butt, N-Frame.  They made 'em big.  I made 'em smaller.

Another view in a rig I made for the older one with the stag grips:
