Pachmayr Grip Problem
« on: August 03, 2006, 05:37:10 AM »
I have an older Contender that recently failed to cock/failed to open.  I sent the unit back to T-C (without grip) and they fixed and returned it very quickly.  Seems the hammer spring and interlock spring needed replacement.  When the frame and bbl came back from T-C, they added a note that certain Pachmayr grips have insufficient clearance for the trigger guard and hammer spring. They added that they don't fix this problem.  So. I inspected my grip and there was a disturbed area at the hammer spring as well as the trigger guard area.  Anyone have any experience with this?  Can I hog out the affected areas?  Get new grips?  Thanks,  Don

I also had the same problems with my Contenders. During the summer months it opened every time with no problems. During the first day of deer season in Ohio I got in the woods early and it was COLD!!!. As day-light approached I tried to open my gun to load up and it woudln't. The little tip of the Pachmayr grip behind the trigger gaurd was so cold it wouldn't flex back enough to allow the gun to open. I had to keep a hand warmer on it so I could open it up. When I got  home I ground-back the grip enough so it would open with out touching the gaurd.

A dremel tool and rotary burr will fix the grip problem in about five minutes. In fact if you contact Pachmeyer they will send you a little drawing to show you exactly where to 'hog it out'.
