T/C Encore in 480 Ruger
« on: December 05, 2002, 04:08:36 PM »
I just got a 12" 480 Ruger barrel for my Encore, after shooting several boxes of Factory ammo through it I decided I liked it well enough to reload.  Has anyone seen Encore specific loads for the 480 anywhere and does anyone else have a 480 barrel and if so what are your experiences with it.

That's a mighty fat case and it is already operating at the same pressure levels as rounds like the .308 Win. or .30-06 even in the revolvers. I don't think trying to push it harder in the Encore would be a smart move. You'll pick up 200 or more fps most likely from the closed breech and longer barrel. This will in effect turn it into the equal of the .475 Linebaugh from a revolver.

Love my 12" barrel for mine! Can anyone give verified velocity gains for our pistols with closed breeches, and the xtra four inches of barrel with any or all bullet weights? Havent got to shoot farther than the 25 yds at the local range, so accuracy over distance info would also be appreciated.

Thanx Luckdog13. Shoot yours much, and if so what kind of accuracy are you able to achieve? Does any bullet weight seem to fly better in your gun? I like to lean toward the heavier bullets in the calibers over 44 because I got the larger calibers for bigger game than the east coast whitetails that I normaly shoot with my 44's. Also can you or anyone else give me a real comparison between the 400gr XTP and other heavy weight bullets from other REPUTABLE manufacturers. Jacketed or Cast. Ive only been able to find factory 400's from hornady where I am, and the ones in Midsouth, Natchez etc. are pretty pricey so any info would be appreciated before I drop $100 or so on like 40 rounds. Thanx again.

Thanx anyway luckydog13. Had a Super RedHawk breifly in .454. This Encore is a much more pleasant pistol to fire.
