Target Forend for Contender

Does anybody make a target forend for the contender that is made to fit the factory barrels?  It seems that most of the makers of these make them to fit only their own barrels.

I believe any custom wood smith will make the fore end to fit whatever barrel contour you want it to fit. They would hardly be called a Custom Wood Smith otherwise now would they?

:-) There is a add on THE LONG RANGE HANDGUNNERS ASSOCIATION web page for benchrest forearms. They seem to be priced fair, for a unfinished product. Not sure of the web site address but there was a email address for further info. ktsammo@wvi.com  Hope this helps.

Bullberry's custom forends and hanger bars have always fit the factory T/C barrels, and Fred will make you any kind of "target" forend that you want.   All you have to do is buy the correct Bullberry hanger bar ($4 - or included with a custom forend) to fit the screw spacing on your factory barrel.

Then if you want to put your factory wood or say a Pachy set back on your factory barrel - AND STILL USE THE HANGER SYSTEM, ... rotate the bar 180 degree's and flip it end for end from the way it was designed to be used on his custom forends, and screw it to your factory barrel.   The single mounting hole of the factory wood or Pachy's will line up with the hanger bar just fine, and it will space the factory wood off the barrel.   This gives you the proven advantage of Fred's "floated" forend system with your factory wood too.   HTH

Thanks for the information Ladobe.  I didn't know that the Bullberry Forend would work with the factory barrels.  I'm going to look into that setup.  It looks like Virgin Valley is charging $35 for their hanger bar which seems a little crazy. :-)

I know you don't know me, but I used to live in Utah's Dixie and run around with all the boys at Bullberry (old BBW crew is now Virgin Valley).   For many "insider" reason's I know about (but won't discuss pubically), Bullberry gets all of my business out of these two shops.   Take that for what its worth.

I just got a foreend from Gunstocks Inc. I wouldn't buy another. The holes were crooked, the foreend was all off center, very plain walnut and it was basically a crude piece of wood for $73. Can't possibly be the best available for a 'tender.

TC Dave gets my vote -- and my $$ when I have any... ;D

He is reasonably priced (better than any other pricing I have found) and does remarkable work. Plus, his turnaround time is short.

I've been enjoying his forends for a while, but recently I got a complete stock set from another cusom maker. And while the fit and finish were perfect, the forend did not suit me to a tee, so to speak.

One PM to Dave took care of everything: He was able to match the somewhat exotic wood, fashion a forend that I was comfortable with and do so for a very reasonable fee.

Of topic - sorry, but just wanted to comment that my (limited) business also goes to Bullberry. Just a couple weeks back Fred spent the best part of an hour on the phone with me, giving load data, case forming advice and such, on a Bullberry .321 barrel I bought on Gunbroker. He was busy and didn't need to do that.  Think I call and get a few more hangers...
