Sighting in.....
« on: August 05, 2006, 03:18:07 PM »
I had previously read in one of these forums that when sighting in you should put your scope on the highest power.

Recently, a friend of mine who is very well read on the shooting sports told me the complete opposite....put the scope on its lowest power.

Well...which is it?
(By the way, I'm shooting a 2x7x33 Leupold.)

Just got some sticker shock when I went to pick up some sabots.
Everything seems to be about $2 more a box than last year.

At today's prices one needs to be as efficient as possible at the range.

Thanks.

Sight in at your lowest power and make sure to try it turned up after you get it sighted in.  Your Leupold shouldn't change POI but you never can tell till you put it on paper.

I don't get why it is necessary to sight in at a lower power.  What is the theory there?  I know there have been instances of variables shifting impact at different powers but I thought that was caused by cheap or not properly working scopes.

I just sighted my slug in at 50 yards cranked up to 7X on my 2-7X33 Leupold on a A-Bolt slug gun.  I can see better at 7X so I shoot better groups at 7X.  I suppose I could use a bigger dot and shoot the same groups at 2X.  I hope to leave it on 2X while hunting and get close shots so that I don't have to move it off 2X.

Your poi shouldnt change on any power. If it does send the scope back to mrg. I have three 2x7x33 Leupolds on my 1187 slug guns and never had any trouble. I have had problems with other scopes.
