6.8 SPC
« on: August 06, 2006, 02:38:21 AM »
I'm looking for information on the round it's self as well as reloading information.

What case is the round based on?

RCBS doesn't list a shell holder for the 6.8 and if I knew it was a .223 necked up then a .223 shell holder would work right?

I tried calling RCBS but they were closed.........maybe I'll try again monday.

Hodgdon and Accurate list loads on their website.  Its based on the .30 Remington as mentioned and  the shell holder for the 40 S&W and 10 mm will fit it according to Layne Simpson.  I have a 23" Contender barrel I have been loading for.  Just ordered 100 pcs of brass from Midways minutes ago..I like it, its accurate and generates very mild recoil.

I called RCBS yesterday.  They say the shell holder for a .30 remington is the one to use....it's a #19 if I remember correctly.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know why the 6.8SPC was developed? Is it for longer ranges or is it because the Arabs are bigger than the Vietnamese and are tougher to stop? I've heard both explanations.

yes...a former grunt wanted something to stop the bad guys quicker..bursts not needed.  It was developed by a civilian who then took the idea to the military.  Has about 40 % more energy than the 5.56 Nato round, but still fits in the M-4 format..mag holds less of course, from what I have read only the special ops guys are using it now.. I will have to ask a Marine Corp Colonel I go to church with to see if the Marines are using it yet.
