Twist Rates

I have just been enlightened and am taking my hunting to a new level with a better understanding of barrel twist rates.

Does anyone know of a table that provides the twist rate by caliber and the optimum bullet weights?  For example, .223 twist of 12 40-55 gr bullets.

One of the thing's I've noticed that alway's comes with enlightenment is a large outlay of cash to find out you haven't really gained much!

I have a 30-06 with a twist of 10 so I contacted Remington and here is what they said "Our testing revealed that the 168gr. and 165gr. performed best in the 30-06."  Gone are the days of spending $$$$ on all types and weighta.  I now know for accuracy I need to narrow my choices to ammo in the 168 gr. or 165gr. category.

I ahd the same twist rate problem with both a 308 and a 30-06.  I wanted to shoot 180s in the 308 but it wa flavored for 150s-165s.  My old 06 (M17 Enfield by Winchester) used to eat 180s, 200s and 220s all day long and spit them out into the same hole, but my newer (1971) M70 also prefers the 150s- 165s, and I prefer the heavier slugs.  However, that being said I ahve to note that the best groups that M70 ever turned in were with Winchester factory 180 gn round noses.  Go figger.  Mikey.

I now look at the twist rate and talk to the manufacturer to see what gr they have found performs best, then buy the ammo.

I think the try different ammo to see what your gun likes best was an attempt to address twist rate without know the twist rate.

Micky, I had a Ruger M77, in 7x57, new about 1970 or so, first one in Kalispell, Mont. Couldn't get it to shoot any bullet I thought it should have. Finally tried some 154gr Hornady RN in it and wow, sudenly a shooter. One of my all time favorite hunting rifles!
