Pro Hunter ?
« on: August 06, 2006, 12:06:07 PM »
I've been ponderin the thought of one of the new TC Pro Hunters.
Thought about doing a little horse tradin and start out with a 25-06 and 22-250. From what iv'e read here the 25-06 with the 28'' barrel should be a good combo. Does anyone have one in either of these cal. and are they shooters.
Also with the 28''barrels I would like to shoot the 110 accubond in the 25-06 and a 45 to 55 gr bullet in the 22-250. Have not seen the twist on these barrels. does anyone know what they are and do they match up with my bullet selection.

thanks,DM

The 25-06 is a 1 in 10 twist.  The 22-250 and .223 I was told by TC are 1 in 12.  I cannot verify that though.  As usually they do the 22-250 in a 1 in 14 twist.

Found these prices at a local gun shop: pro hunter 25-06 608.00
                                                       22-250 barrel 258.00
Basiclly the frame kit is 350.00 with each add. barrel 258.00.
these are the prohunter 28'' SS fluted barrels.
Are these prices good/bad, has anyone found better.
I've seen a few $ cheaper, but with shipping , no better.
thanks, DM

I did not jump in on the post, because, I don't have Pro hunter barrels other than the 50 Cal M/L. I do how ever have a 22-250 on a non pro-hunter frame. Which is no help to you. Not many people have bought the Pro-hunter so you will be limited to responses.

I have 4 Pro Hunters and extra barrels landing here this week. I'll let you know what I find but there is a 25/06 and 22/250 in the mix (as well as a 416 Rigby! :o) My regular Encore 25/06 barrels shoot 100 grain bullets exceptionally well and with a little fine tuning I'll have the 117s doing sub half inch too. The one thing I have noticed with the 25 is the importance of being off the lands 30 to 50 thou when you hand load.

I may be wrong, but I think the new setup is all hype.  I can see only a few new improvements to the basic Encore.  These improvements could have been implimented in the Encore.  But I think TC thought they could hype it up and play on words and call it a new gun and raise the prices.

I almost choked when I saw the new price on one in my local toy store.  Almost $800 for a black powder version.  That is too much for me.  Had to laugh when the owner told me a guy came back in with a new Encore black powder (old version?) that he had purchased a few weeks earlier and traded it in on the new Pro Hunter.  Can't believe someone would waste all this money for bragging rights.   :o

Like I said, I could be wrong.  Until we have more data on this gun, we will have to sait and see.

Your wrong. I have one and not for bragging rights either, I gave that crap up long ago. Now I get what I like and what appeals to me, I could give to s**ts what others think.  No hype, they do shoot good and in my opinion, well worth it.

I think I'll wait for more results to come in and not rely on biased opinions.

For what it is worth, I was not knocking the accuracy of the Pro Hunter, but the idea of making a new gun to put the upgrades on it.

I still am not impressed with the accuracy of the Encore as for my own experience goes.  I have an Encore barrel that is back at the factory now with accuracy problems.

for now I will fly the Contender flag all day.  I love them, all eight barrels.

Let's just wait for the results and remarks to come in on this new gun.  Then we can give it a good evaluation.    ;D

You can wait all you want. I have several friends that also have the Pro-hunter and are getting the same results as I am getting. I don't have a biased opinion of the Pro-hunter, I have hands on experience and witnessed it from other Pro-hunter shooters.  ;)

Well now that we have the accuracy question out of the way; we now know that Redhawk1 thinks the sun rises and sets on the Encore's accuracy and I think it sucks.  I WILL CONCEDE THAT, OK!!!     ::)

Now if someone would like to comment on the idea of taking new improvements for the Encore and putting them in a new gun and then jacking up the price, let's hear it please.

Hopefully we can ge back to the discussion I first brought up:

It is all just opinions, if you don't see the value, why should we try to convince you any different???? I don't need to convince myself.  :P

Thanks Redhawk1, somebody needed to say it.

However the Pro Hunter is just an Encore, With improvments. And normally improvments comes at a cost. Lets put it to where ALMOST anybody can understand. Take a standard Chevy pickup. Trade the cloth seats for leather, the AM radio for am/fm cd sterio, reg wheels for mags, tailpipes, etc. You should be gettin the picture. You still just have a chevy pickup , with improvments.
Same thing TC did with the Encore. Added a Flex-Tech stock, 28'' SS fluted barrels. All  parts are interchangable with the orig. Encore.
On the side of the box my PH came in said. TC Encore Pro Hunter.
I guess you could say TC "implimented" improvments to the encore, since that's what they actuallly did.
Hope to get to shoot my new Encore PH tomarrow.

Well, LL it's fundmentally simple. In order for any business to stay IN BUSINESS they have to keep making a profit. That means that their revenues have to be more than their operating expenses. If that doesn't happen, they end up like Winchester.

So, if a company is smart enough to take an existing product and make enhancments on it, and then market that product and it is accepted by the buying public, then they have kept their research and development cost down, their tooling cost down, their manfacturing cost down, and created a new sales market that will drive their revenues up.

What does all this mean for you and me? Well, it means that the lifetime guarantee of your Encore, and my Pro Hunter (and my Contender) is still worth something, because Thompson Center is still around. And , just like Smith & Wesson (for those crybabies who whine about the lock) the products are made right here in the USA by people who live right here in the USA who raise their families here in the USA and have mortgages, car payments, kids clothing and all the stuff all of us have.

I could "comment" some more, but I think I've made my point. Buy a Pro Hunter. You will not be disapointed. I wasn't.

Dave.
