22LR to 22 Mag

Can a 22 LR Versa Pack barrel be rechambered to a 22 Mag?

I don't see why not, although the bore size of the 22Lr may be different than what the 22Mag should be, it would probably still shoot ok.

 Iwould not advise it, I know it is 2 thousand larger for 22 mag over 22 /
 I think you would lose acceray(sp),  Just MHO
 Be better to get aMag Barrel Marv.

I agree with Marv not knowing the bore dimensions that NEF uses. But if ya just want a switch barrel on the Versa, that's the only way to do it cuz they won't fit any other barrels to it. It may shoot fine, but then again, the .002" tighter bore may cause excess pressure, dunno.

I know some .22cal revolvers come with 2 cylinders, a long rifle and a mag, so it must certainly be ok to shoot both in the same barrel, but how's the accuracy?

I had bought a 22LR versa pack barrel off ebay and I am useing it on a SB2 reciever. I thought if I could find another, I might go with the rechamber...Just a thought and you never know until you ask.....

 Only thing the revoloers W/ 2 cylinders,  There barrels are bore for Mags
 The ones I have seen, and do not shot good with long rifles.
 I would try to get a mag barrel if that is what I want, It should work
 on SB1 or 2 action if firing pin is in right place. Marv.

I wouldnt worry about accuracy.  I run 2 AR-15 for varmint hunting and target shooting.  Both are DPMS barrels in 223, which is acutally .224.  I bought a conversion bolt that lets me shoot 22lr ammo out of my 223 AR's.  I get 1" groups at 50 yards with cheap Federal bulk ammo, I dont know about you but I think that is pretty good for a 22lr with the .002 difference and all.

Did I read you are using a SB2 frame to shoot 22lr?  Does that work?

I dont know if this works but I have read of someone using a drill bit of the right size and a coreless drill to rechamber fro lr to mag.  But Barrels are cheap just buy a different barrel.

My 22 mag barrel is .224, and a proper 22 LR barrel is .223.  Measure your barrel and if it is .224 then go for it.  The twist may be a little slow, normally a 22 LR barrel is a 1 in 16 and I think my 22 Mag barrel was a 1 in 14 or 1 in 12.  Larry

Man I was thinkin backwards on this one.
Ya know the older 22 hornets were made with a .223 barrel, just so happends that my dad has 2 Savage's one is a model 19H and the other is a 23 they were both made with .223 barrels and we shoot those .224 35gr V-max out of them.

It's been reported that maximum accuracy is obtained with a bore that is .0005 to .001 smaller than the bullet.  There are barrels made for 10-22's that squeeze a 22 long rifle down to .17 cal, so it can't be too bad.  Larry

To dk17hmr; Yes the 22LR versa pack barrel works on a SB2 or SB1 reciever. The chamber is off set to match the firing pin.

To every one else; concerning the difference in bore size. I tried to shoot 7.62x39 with the help of an adapter through a 30-06 barrel. Putting the 310 bullit through a 308 barrel did not work well. It shot all over the paper. I tried two different barrels with the same results. I sold the adapter and bought a 7.62x39 barrel. (After two years of harrassing H&R to make this barrel)

I have a 22/ 22mag revolver it shoots fairly accurate, only the two dont shoot in the same pattern.

Funny!!!   but not really serious I hope..........

This actually sounds like a great idea for a nice lightwieght camp or truck gun. I think I will look for one now and lengthen the rimfire barrel chamber to .22 Mag specs and possibly put a set of iron sights on the .410 shotgun barrel. It would then be a nice small gauge shotgun for partridge and such as well as hopefully shooting those small .410 slugs accurately out to a reasonable distance....Thanks for the idea....<><.... :)

I think you'll find those barrels are 17Mach2 conversion barrels, Eabco sells em.

I hope that the new three barrel combos will fit on the sb2 recievers. Customer services are kind of vauge with this information. All I need is the 22mag barrel as I have a 17 Rem centerfire barrel...
