7mm-08 with a 10" barrel...
« on: August 07, 2006, 09:45:49 AM »
Just wondered if ya'll can tell me your woes, load hints and whether a Swift scope will hold up to the recoil. I've not yet shot it. Gotta get a piece of glass on it ,but I may just have to take her to the range tonite and touch her off anyway!

Don't know about the Swift pistol scope, I use Burris and even one Simmons that has held up, even on my 460 S&W............

What kind of accuracy can you expect with a factory 10" 7mm-08?

I have had a ten inch barrel for about six months.  I am loading mostly IMR4064 and Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets in 120g and 140g.  The 120g shoot the best in mine so far.  The most accurate loads are with 38-38-1/2g of 4064 will give me groups less than one inch.  The kick is pretty sharp and I have killed one Weaver 2-1/2x8 scope.  Right now I have a Bushnell 2x6 and it has held up well with three of the Leupold refleman vertical split rings.  There is no doubt that the short barrel can be accurate and still have pretty good speed, but it does have considerable muzzle flip.  One really unusual thing that I have noticed is that as I increase powder charge by as little as one grain the point of impact at one hundred yards actually goes down!!!
