What do you guys think about ripping open a new Pro Hunter TC barrel from 25-06 to 257 STW?  Outta that 28" tube wow....that could be fun with a Barnes TSX.

Well it would be a screamer, that's for sure. I thought about buying a 7mmRM & re-chambering to 7STW, but I am a little hesitant now. I use a very good gunsmith, one of the best I think, & he has done alot of Encore work. He tells me that the std. '06 head sizes do better in the Encore as far as target accuracy goes. I mean, you could by a 338 barrel to Elk hunt with & any group sizes under 1" would be a nice bonus, but in the 257 or 7STW, if you don't get extreme accuracy, then the extra power cannot be effectively utilized.
I am going to research this further, but right now I am looking at buying a 7-08 tube & re-chambering to 280AI.

I once thought a 257stw would be great to but the encore frame cannot take those pressures, you would have to load it down to a 257 Weatherby. You may be able to get ir=t rechambered to a 257 HAwk wich would give you weatherby speeds on a blown out 280 case. www.z-hat.com

How fast can the STW257 push a 100gr bullet?  Is it a wildcat?  I can't find any load info on it. I've looked in the Cartridges of the World 9th,10th,and 11th Editions. Its not listed.

Or is it a dream caliber.

I load a .257 STW for a friend of mine. Loaded with RL-22 and 100gr Nosler Partitions we got 3840 through my crono at 10 ft. We haven't tried the TSX's yet. Nosler Balistic Tips shot into 0.4" @ 100 yds. The partitions go 0.8" @ 100 Yds. The rifle was a Rem Sendero 25-06 that was blueprinted and rechambered by Lex Webernick at Rifles Inc. The reg. X bullets wouldn't shoot in it so we're hoping the TSX's will. We tried H-870, H-1000, IMR-7828, & RL-25 but none worked as well as the RL-22. He was working two months a year as a guide on a ranch in texas, and was able to take numerous culls and hogs with it. He also took three Antelope and two caribou, never had to shoot anything twice.
