I've been thinking of picking up a new Blackhawk in 45 Colt and I really like the feel and looks of the 5.5" barrel model. However, the backstrap is aluminum on this particular model and that kind of concerns me. My main purpose for the gun would be whitetail hunting and I'd be using heavy loads with 300gr+ bullets, which is where my concern comes from. I'm sure it's probably strong enough or I'd have heard of problems, but has anyone ever had any problems with the aluminum backstraps when regularly using heavy loads?
If it could end up being a problem, I may just settle for the stainless 4 5/8" model which has the steel backstrap.
