45-70 Bullets?

I should be getting my frame with the 32" 45-70 barrel and 24" 243 barrels back in a few weeks.  Im like a little kid waitin for Christmas day.

I cast my own bullets, I use mostly Lee molds and I have a 405gr Hollow Base and a 500gr Pointed just wondering if these shoot good in ya'll guns.  I know they are all going to do different things with different bullets but think these will be a good start?

I also would like to hear about what bullets everyone prefers to shoot in their 45/70's.

I shoot a bunch of different bullets in my .45-70 and .45/120, 300gr Nosler PP, Hornady 350gr RN, cheap Rem 405gr, 405Gr, 440gr, 460gr Cast Performance, 525gr Beartooth Piledrivers, and 2 that I have but haven't shot yet are Saeco 550gr and Speer 300gr.

There are plenty of .458" bullets to choose from, just depends on whatcha want to do with em.

Anyone know why Speer does not reccommend using their bullets with some Lee dies?

Jack: I use lyman 457193 420 grain cast bullets out of my B.C> 20:1 MIX would say it is pretty soft gas a BHN of 10 with a .460 diameter,works excellent but I keep FPS down under 1400.

My most used  is the Hornady 350 RN and FP and my 22"handi  just loves the 300 HP as well.

dMy buffalo clasic seems to realy like the laser cast 405 gr bullits. I am stilll trying different powders and loads but so far the 405s shootbetter groups than the lighter bulits

JACK19512------The bullet loading information put out by Speer had only to do with the Lee Factory Crimp Die.
Lee had stated that it would work on any bullet regardless of a lack of cannalure.  Speer said that the Crimp Die would deform the bullet and accuracy would suffer........In my own experience I have found Speers comments not to be true.   I have loaded thousands of bullets without a cannalure, used the Crimp Die on them and found the accuracy from my rifles to be on par with any other bullet.....IMHO

The reason I asked was because I just purchased a BC 45/70 and Speer was some of the bullets I ordered for reloading.  I didn't want to use them until I found out what the deal was with Speer bullets and Lee dies.

For the Springfield trapdoor .45-70, I shoot Goex Black Powder FFg and Montana Precision Swaging Cast bullets-405 grain round nose hollow base.  The trapdoor really does well with this round (loaded iaw JSWolf's book).
For the Buffalo Classic .45-70, I shoot "777" FFg and Meisters Cast bullets-405 grain round nose flat point.  Also shoot 300 grain in JHP and LRNFP.
Shot each gun at the range this morning, and it was great!  Either I am finally catching on or the moon was in the right spot or something was just right!  The BC was great at the silhouettes today!

dk17hmr i shoot the lee 500r bullet in the buff classic with black and smokless powder, i even fit a gascheck to the 500r the push it through the lee sizer die my buff classic likes .457 bullets. with the gascheck fitted i can push the 500r out to 1700fps with no leading that is with a 20 to 1 lead tin mix it is very accuret bullet heres a pic of the bullet with and without gascheck.

I shoot 205gr pb swc, 220gr rn pb and gc, 320gr RCBS rf gc , 405gr HB Lee, 405gr Lee pb with an added gc and the 500gr Lee 3R, with and without gc.
