Field Cleaning Kits
« on: August 13, 2006, 04:19:30 AM »
To do my part in helping keep our planet and our hunting areas clean, I follow the same approach backpackers follow...if I pack it in, I pack it out.  For muzzleloading in particular…and this is definitely not "Historically Correct"...I carry "field cleaning kits" in Ziplocs.

Gives me the convenience of completely field cleaning a ML after a shot so I can continue hunting for hours and not worry about a fouled rifle…and then let’s me easily carry the smelly mess out and not leave litter behind...just about as convenient as being in the garage...they consist of:

5 damp cleaning patches
5 dry patches
1 lubed patch
1 Alcohol wipe
1 Pipe cleaner
1 Q-tip
1 Muzzle mitt

roundball posted the same topic "sans's" Flinter vrs Field on the TMMH,,same photo' and all under the name bill/nc.
Well, I carry in my belt bag,, all the things I need to shoot in the field for weeks.
The cleaning jag is on the end of my "ramrod". I carry a small roll of cloth that can be used for patch and/or cleaning swabs. I carry a nipple/vent tool. I carry a tow worm and tow. Also a "ball bag" and powder horn (these items are worn close to body). I carry lube and cleaning solvent with me at all tymes (they call it "spit"!)
I also carry a small compass, a flint and steel and about 10' of three strand hemp rope/twine. All of these items fit in a package about the size of a "truckers wallet".

And because I hunt on "publick" land,,I useally carry out more than I carry in.
now I don't mean ta hurt roundball's feelins,,but a little study into that "flint lock" era,,? heck,,I'll even make a nice belt bag for ya,,,,,,,"peace"
i'm a realist. i've not seen it all, but man ,,I've Been Around the block once or twice

Got to love those zip-loc bags ;D Nice to see that the field cleaning kit idea isn't a strange thought. I never thought of q-tips. Well guess I get to add something to mine. Thanks for idea roundball.

Why don't you post there on the TMM Hide any more?    Oh, I remember.....that's another muzzleloader site you were banned from.

If you'll just watch how the rest of us interact and communicate, you can learn something.

Thanks Roundball.  I carry some of the same things into the field also.  Making up a small kit like that is better than what I'm doing.

As far as posting the same thing on more than one forum, dang!  If you have something good to share with folks I think it should be posted on more than one forum.  JMHO :)
