conicals - part 2

Shot the Precision Rifle 450gr Ultimate 1 and No Excuse 460gr conicals at the range today. Used 777 loose powder, Winchester muzzloader primers, and TC # 17. (yes #17)  Prior to shooting today I had given the Omega's bore a very good cleaning followed up with JB Bore Paste and then JB Bore Bright. This gun has not had many bullets through it and I thought the JB products would help smooth things up a bit and make sure the bore was absolutely clean. Useing 90grs and No Excuses: 3 shots 1 1/8" @ 50yds, another group 2 3/8" @ 50yds, and 2 shots into 3 1/4" with the third shot opening it up to 6" (me)  @ 100yds. Useing the Precision Rifle bullets about 12" @ 50yds. The Precision Rifle bullets load extremely, extremely hard and didn't shot very well the first time I tried them ( could have been the pellets the first time?) and after this group I quite with them. They are just so hard to load, I'm not going to fight to get them down the bore. When I got home I measured the Precision bullets .510" OD. I measured the No Excuse bullets .503" OD. Might explain why the Precision bullets were so hard to load. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask them why are their bullets .510" OD ? I'm pleased with the No Excuse bullet. At this point I think I'm about at the limit of how accurately I can shoot with the Williams peep and that red fiber optic front sight. I really don't like that front sight. It makes it very hard to do precision shooting. I would prefer a post front sight. I used to shoot highpower rifle matches, service rifle so I can shoot peep sights. It's just that fiber optic blocks out what you're trying to shoot. Anyone have any suggestions on a different front sight? I'm thinking about putting the scope back on it just to see what it's really capable of at 100yds then putting the peep back on for Colorado. One other question - the No Excuse bullets go down the bore almost like Power Belts. Very little resistance pushing them down the bore. Is that how conicals are supposed to be?

My dad is working up a load for his first ever Colorado trip and is trying to make the Ultimate 1 conical work as well.  I was helping him out and I did not find it hard to load at all.  We were putting bore butter on the knurled portion and it seems to go right down.  He is also planning on putting the scope back on to work the load up.  Will report more as we have time this week to tweak it.

Also,  does anyone know if it is legal to put any type of wadding between the charge and conical, or is that against Colorado rules as well?

Smoky, I was doing the same. Putting bore butter on the knurled portion. I had worked with these the prior weekend without much success and they were a real  -itch to get down the bore. I tried them yesterday and gave up on them. Mine measure .510" OD. Could you do me a favor and measure yours? What brand and model of muzzleloader are you using? How's the Ultimate 1 shooting for you? I was beginnig to think it was me or the muzzleloader until I tried the No Excuse conical. I was thinking about trying a wad too. Been in two gun shops and Gander Mountain and no one carries them (wads) around here. Everyone so stuck on sabots around here. I don't like sabots and I don't need to shoot 200yds. I don't know if wads are legal in Colorado.

I shoot the 460 grain NoExcuses out of my Whites. NoExcuse are a First Class Big Game Conical! Dave at NoExcuse is a Prince to do business with. Where else can you order, get the bullets with an invoice, and then mail a personal check? NoExcuses! One reason they load so easy is they're pure lead. No tin! I'm suprised to see you're getting such accuracy using 90 grains. Not really. I'm getting great accuracy with 85 grains of 777 ffg with a home made card wad. But White's are designed to shoot conicals. I've seen a big revival of conicals in resent years.

Whites? I've heard alot of good things about them. Not familiar with them. Do you have a web address for them?  I'm starting to like those No Excuse bullets. Hope I get to drop the hammer on something with them out in Colorado. They feel like they're really going to pack a punch. 30rds off the bench yesterday and my shoulder feels like it took some punches.
