IMHO best place to go. Lots of money from oil, some government installations in the SE corner... Where the p'dogs are, you will be welcomed with open arms. (They get lonely. Please leave them a "ham," basket of fruit, case of coke, beer...i.e show your appreciation, grease the way for the next fella...) No license fees last I knew. Big lonely. [You could be more than 75 miles from a McDonalds!!]   Don't have a break down if you have to rent. When last I was able to shoot, there is a p'dog town approx. 26 miles in diameter between Douglas and Newcastle. BLM (Bureau of Land Management) has charge of the land. And they had maps of the town and its more dense populations. You could purchase commercial county maps (they have them, $6.00 each county??? more now no doubt) and copy the info onto your map... [BEWARE: Clinton years some areas were closed for black footed ferret re introduction.(Almost died of a house cat disease, a weasle that loves to eat p'dogs)!!!]. Trespass there and it is the Fed slam. DON'T!!! Chambers of Commerce are welcoming too, especially away from Yellow Stone and the other tourist traps. they appreciate your $$$, gas, lodging, food... BLM office I visited had a well thumbed list, 4 pages, typed, double spaced, of ranchers who were begging for shooters. BEGGING! Fed rules. They could give you name and phone but not address, BUT the phone book lay on the counter and it was well thumbed too... enjoy, wish I was going along... luck happy trails...

Like I said, the BLM offices in Douglas had a guy assigned full time to assist p'dog shooters find shooting, then. Years ago. I think 55% of Wyoming is public land. No one wants to own/pay taxes on mountains. The ranches "lease" "grazing rights" ... They cannot exclude hunters/shooters by law...  You call the BLM or local chamber of commerce and get a list of people who want shooters (this is like someone coming into your basement and killing all the mice and roaches, FREE! They love it.)  and ...-???-  Unless you look like a hippie of terrorist or drag queen (in spite of Broke Back movie), you will be welcome. Call first and they will all but come to town to lead you out. Camp. Rent a bunk in the bunk house. This is the cheap way. Plan carefully. OR You could just hire a guide, $100.00 a day per shooter or more --more services, higher prices-- or you can do your own leg work. Wait until you get there, or use the phone. The big p'dog town town was between Douglas and Newcastle. I REPEAT, they closed areas for the ferrets. THIS  is what you NEED to ID to avoid and stay out of Fed prison. Locals hate it, but game wardens will bust you. Otherwise, locals couldn't care less. Might join you. Get the BLM office, Douglas Wyo, number from a directory assistance (whitepages.com, switchboard.com) and call. Or chambers of commerce in any town. Or the banker or the farm store or the diner... Just say you want to shoot varmints and you may have to beat takers off with a stick. [You are aware of VHA? Varmint Hunters Association? varminthunter.org ... They have a magazine where people advertise, guides. Not free, but quicker, a little quicker...] I haven't been in a decade (family problems) and cannot tell you exactly who to look up. But I would be shocked if between BLM and Chambers of commerce you couldn't run out of ammo in 3-5 days. I won't promise you a 500 round day, but I will promise that there have been 500 round days. With the drought? Cycle/population is down. Back in 3-7 years, depending on weather... LUCK.

One other thing, the p'dogs are in the grasslands. If I recall right, Larime is in the rocky foothills of the mountains. Great for rock chucks, but...You will need to travel a bit N.E. where the cows are. To the north and west, rock chucks and coyotes are where ever there is something to eat. But the national parks are off limits.  You might find a bit of resistance in the S.E. corner too because of all the military functions--don't recall the air base name near Cheyenne--, population, etc... but up around Douglas and into Montana... LUCK.

usda/adca... (United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal Damage Control Agent) also known as the "government hunter/trapper." Ask at the farm stores and small town diners... DO NOT visit the USDA office. In the office you risk meeting some tree hugging boob who will misdirect you 'cause they hate guns, hunters, etc. and this makes points with the bosssssss... Find the hunter in the field and he/she will see you as free help, unless you look like a real turkey, and send you to do things that they, then, won't have to... LUCK... I posted this couple days ago, but apparently it got lost... oh welllllll LUCK...

I live in SW Wyoming. Settled here because of the varmint hunting here. Lots of stuff to point a gun at.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
