777 pellets
« on: August 14, 2006, 04:15:34 AM »
My Sidekick is rated for 150 grains bp/pyrodex but Hodgdon's webites lists 100 grain max. Which is correct? I was thinking of trying Hornady Great Plains 385 gr conicals and (3) 777 pellets.

Hodgdon's has never endorsed the Magnum charges, I think it is a CYA thing with them. They know people are using more than their recommended loads, but are not going to aprove tem as safe. As for the Hornady Great Plains 385 gr conicals, never shoot conicals with pellets. Hornady used to have a conical disclaimer on the pellet boxes, I'm sure it would still be there. For lead conicals, you will get best results in the 70 - 80 grain loose powder range. The Great Plains are probably the worst shooting bullet out of my Huntsman, too much powder will blow the skirt on the base and accuracy goes all to heck. The 430 - 460 grain conicals shoot best out of mine, and can be had at Bull Shop and No Excuses at very reasonable prices.
