Others may differ, but I think not.  Ideally, hearing protection would be great, but in my view it interferes with your ability to hear the wildlife unless it is active protection (electronic muffs).  Where I live, it can be cold during deer season and those muffs can get real uncomfortable.  You'll only shoot once (I hope) and if it were me, I wouldn't wear protection.  Of course, I do when at the range.

Yup, I differ! Or better yet I should say I DIFFER
From years of various noise I have lost a fair amount of hearing, in the woods I'll almost always see movement before I can hear an animal moving, at least one of deer size, pigs are a whole different story.

Buy a good set of electronic muffs, they will run less, or about the same, as that 7mm TCU brake and much, much less than hearing aids later on down the road. Care to know what a pain it is? Drop by your local VFA hall when there are a bunch of cars out there and drop in to say hello, you'll get an earful, cheer up some boys, and learn a lot about what a PITA it is to have hearing loss.

Listen to Ron, he knows what he speaks about, me too! :-[ Hearing loss happens one shot a time, and that muzzle brake will cause considerable hearing loss, and once it's lost, there's no getting it back without electronic help and that falls short of the real thing. Even the report of a 22Lr is damaging at 134Db, damage occurs above 85-90Db. There are plenty of relatively inexpensive hearing protection/enhancements on the market, from about $80 and up, to be not be utilized to protect what hearing god gave you.

Thank you.  I also have more hearing loss than I should, partly because of years on the job in noisy factories, and partly because I didn't want to wear hearing protection while shooting.  Strange thing is that I also am shooting better since I started using the muffs.  So now they are on even when hunting.  And a brake makes it worse, so wear them!

Listen to Ron while you still can.  You can certainly spend some money on the electronic ear protection.  I use an inexpensive, but effective, pair of ear plugs that dangle on a cord.  If I see movement those suckers go in.  It's a little inconvenient, but I'm not losing any hearing.  The deer I shot last November was just as dead! ;D

you must always use some hearing protection, it only takes a single shot to damage your hearing.
I have ma set of pro ears and love them and now never go in the woods with out them on! they are nice and warm in the winter not so good in the warmer season. I have to take them off about ever hour and wipe  my ears and the cups from sweat.
I have now  been able to hear way more deer then ever before when hunting, I can even hear when someone is sneaking in behind me.
I have shot several deer to have them run off with out leaving a single drop of blood and no way to track them. with the pro ears on I can hear them run and even when they fall and do the death kicks. and using this information I was able to recover them very fast and with little trouble.

The set of pro ears I have will run all season on a single set (of 4) of N battery's and I can even get the summer range time with the same  set. my set has the input jacks so I can listen to my MP-3 player while at the range they are well worth the $250.

Muzzzel Brake equals  HEARING Protection  for you and anyone close to you when you shoot

I've read all your recent posts and I feel I need to ask
Do you shoot and do you shoot often ???
you seem Quite upset with shooting a Contender 10 inch barrel
It is not a kicker you may want to shoot with someone that can give you a few Pointers
I get this feeling that you have a Death grip hold on that TC and that is BAD for you and the target

Ear protection! Once in the woods I fired my then 30-30 w/brake just to see what it was like with no earplugs(BAD- BAD- BAD). It felt like someone drove a nail through my head. I went and bought a set of Peltors. Have you ever been stone deaf? One afternoon after shooting my new(1961) 357 blackhawk 50 times, I actually went completely deaf for several hours. Scary.  Pat

Simple rule of thumb when it comes to hearing protection.........if you have to ask whether you need it or not ......you need it.

Far better to error on the side of 'more' than 'less' when it comes to that subject.

I never thought about hearing protection while shooting. I also saw little problem with listening to music really loud with headphones. A few years back I noticed some hearing loss. I started to use muffs on the range. I turned down the volume on my tunes. I still saw no way of hunting with protection. This year I bought some cheap electronic muffs from Harbor Freight ($15.95 on sale). They kill noise above 90db or so, but amplify sounds below that. I will be wearing them this fall when hunting. By turning up the gain, I should be able to hear deer better. When I shoot, they shoud help me keep what hearing I have.

Afraid I must agree with the others on this. Hearing protection is a must!!!! I think most of us over 50-60 years have suffered hearing loss from shooting. We didn't know any better. Now we do. Protect your hearing with muffs or plugs but use one or both every time you fire a gun. Even a 22lr. Regards, Byron  ;D

You need protection. I now wear a  set of the Peltor Ultimate 10's when I go hunting or shooting. It takes just a second to slip them on. Try living with with constant noise in your head, 24/7. I can't hear crickets if I have a box of them. My watch is supposed to "beep" but I have yet to hear it. Don't be a hero, especially a deaf hero.

I use Walker Game Muffs when I am shooting my hand guns for hunting. Without a doubt you will need hearing protection.

We fit a lot of suppressors to TCs, noise is about the same as 22LR/22 mag, regardless of calibre using hi-vel loadings. Recoil is at least halved. They are worth considering if you are in a state that allows it, in NZ they are completely unrestricted and very popular now people have worked out the harm that unprotected ears suffer.

And that supressor will have little effect if installed after a muzzle brake, as the initial question posted.  It will make that pistol barrel long though.

I probably should have explained it better, the suppressor has a muzzle brake inside it, its job is to turn the gas rearward, the barrel goes 2/3rds of the way up inside the suppressor, 5" is forward of the muzzle. The pic of the rebarrelled Rossi, and the Biakal show how the suppressor fits in relation to the barrel.

What? What was that? I couldn't hear what you said.

Only wear hearing protection if you want to be able to hear for the rest of your life.
