What you have described, I would just stick to the 2X Leupold.  ;D

50-75yds, your current scopr is perfect, heck out to 125yds for deer size is still great, you'll get a better view and never have to worry about going for a shot on an animal that jumps up in front of you only to not be able to tell if that brown blur is the head or the as*. Been there done that, got rid of the highpower scopes for the close range/possible close range hits.

Sometimes I think we all get carried away with the variable/higher powered pistol scopes on our T/Cs. Sure, I've got the Burris 3x12 on my Hornet barrel but it took me a long while to convince myself the fixed 2x was good enough for the 375x444 and it is. I reserve it for moose which represents a pretty big target - no need to bang a deer that hard anyways and I've got deer-specific barrels that would be getting lonely if I did (a couple of those only have 2x or red dots as well). Now I live in the northeast where 25-75 yards is most common and 100-150 is getting long. If I lived out west I might not be singing the same tune

I have a Leupold 2x on my S&W 44 mag (6 1/2" 629).  At fifty yards, I put twelve rounds in 3 inches, and 100 yards, I put 6 rounds in about 5 inches, 4 of the 6 went 2 3/4".  I would say the 2x is fine for hunting at 50 to 75 yards.

Consider that at 4x you will have about half the field of view..........pistol scopes are difficult enough to use without cutting the FOV in half. Also requires the user to be very experienced in using that combination.

I have several Encore and Contender pistol barrels, on the heavy hitters (444 & 375 jdj) I have Aimpoint red dots and either 2x or 3x on the others and a 2.5-7 on a 223. In my opinion anything over
3x and the eye box is too small for quick and stable target aquisition. Burris used to make a 3x and you can still find some good used ones around for $90 - $150
