Forend
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:37:14 AM »
Have a question about forends.I have a 22 hornet I bought new in 1991 and after reading the accurizing by Fred M,want to try the o-ring trick, and maybe the RTV bedding.I want start with a new forend.I can't decide if I should go with a composite or get one of the forends from gunstock inc.I like the target/varmint style from gunstock inc,and could add the buttstock with rollover cheek-piece later.Which one do some of you prefer? Thanks

My experience (limitted, it's true) has been that the composite forearm made the groups open up, no matter what I tried.

Well...I don't like any of the synthetics NEF offers...I do like their Laminated ones...If you want to a nice stock that you finish yourself...then go for the GunStocks Inc. stocks...they are very nice...

If you decide to get the butt too, have them fit a Limbsaver recoil pad too, they sell it fitted for less than you can buy the pad alone for!! ;) I know you don't need the pad for the hornet, but you may want it for other barrels you may buy used here or have fitted by H&R....like a .45-70!! ;D

Looking at thebrown/brown laminate right now, like the looks of it.Thanks Quickdtoo,I like a pad on it and bet they would do a better job at it than I could.

Wow mac did a good job finishing that one too.Well I'm down to choosing between the laminate and the fancy walnut, leaning toward laminate as this is a using rifle and think I would like it better.
