Yea Jack every one has their preferences I myself like the scout mount concept expecially for a milsurp rifle that is not tapped at the receiver for a scope. Now I know that is not a problem with the Swiss rifles as they have a good mount that needs no gun smithing. Other rifles are tougher to scope. I have Darrell's  scout mount on my K31 and like it. I will like it better when I find a better scope as the one I have on there now is a old Bushnell Phantom and it could be better. One thing I like about the scout mount concept in heavy cover it is a lot faster to pick up the target than a regular mounted scope is.  I made a mount for my Swede and it is permenent but lower than the sight mounted mounts. I killed a deer with it last year and it worked great. Now one reason I like the scout mouts is I am left handed so my bolt is straight on my Swede and easier for me to use than if it was bent. Of course on the Swiss guns that is not an issue.  Looking at your pictures I wonder how that would work for a lefty? I would think a cheek weld would be an issue unless you got one of those lace on pads that would have padding on that side.

Glad you like your scout mount.  Some people do like them.  Myself I don't like them and won't put them on anymore of my rifles.  Shame I didn't have my K31 there, we could have let everyone shoot both and get their opinions.  Would have been interesting.   :)

Jack, I got the clamp on mount from Brownell's mounted on the K31, works perfect just as you said it did, I also got the Warne 7.3 low rings and put them on it with a Japan built Bushnell Trophy 2-7x32 scope, makes a good looking set up, just need the ammo from Grafs and I can go make some holes!!

Your K31 looks good.  Post some pics of your groups when you get a chance to shoot it.  On my mount, and I don't know if I needed to do this or not but I used some blue(might have been purple) loc-tite on the screw.  I plan on deer hunting with my K31 this year and I didn't want to find I had a loose scope mount when I needed it the most.

One of the best things I did to my K31 is to install a sling stud so I could use a bi-pod for target shooting.  I know what some would say but I don't think the K31 will ever have any real collector value and whatever I do to it to make it a better shooter in my mind is an improvement.  Besides, I have my walnut stocked one I keep in my safe that will stay in it's original condition.

Jack as far as I am concerned you do not have to defend your decisions. I buy guns to shoot and if that means modifications then so be it. For the collectors out there buy your guns and do what you want with them frame them for all I care. But if I make a shooter out of one that at the moment is a garden variety  I do not want to hear the criticism my money my gun!  Some of these guns may never be collectable so why sit on them hopeing so.  I will say modifying a gun that is already a collectable is dumb because you could sell it and then buy several shooters and every one is happy. For the guys who pee and moan about modifying any gun that is common now I say you buy it. it's yours to do with what you want. The guy who sold me my Swede 96 about crapped when he heard I shortened it and made a scout rifle out of it. Yea it will never be worth the 300 bucks that they are going for now at gun shows or higher. Then to me I love it and I have killed a deer with it last year the first year I used it and look forward to shooting another this year with it. To me I am as happy with it as if I had a 600 dollar sporter even more so as I personalized it to what I wanted.

That's good shooting.  I didn't do that well with IMR 4350, OK but not great.  Have you tried IMR 4064?  Of the powders I have tried with my K31 IMR 4064 consistently does the best.
