How can this be?
« on: August 19, 2006, 05:59:53 AM »
Answer me this, how can a 35 Whelen shoot a 225 grainer as fast as a 30-06 180 grainer with the same parent case and the same amount of powder?  Is the whelen just more efficient?  What gives?  Just curious I guess...

Less bearing surface due to the shorter, fatter bullet? Same reason the .338-06 shoots 180gr bullets at over 3000fps. ;)

possibly, good thought.  The bearing surface of the 225 grain Nosler PT, and BT are pretty long though...

That's what happens when you take a good thing (30-06) and improve on it.  Rush right out and take advantage of it.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

More base area for the expanding gas to push against. Same as a sabot round.
