RM764 MOOSE
« on: August 19, 2006, 09:23:08 PM »
was looking at this hunt, I have a small jon boat with a jet, is there a place around Fairbanks a person could launch and get into zone 2 for moose, any info I sure could use. I see on the map there is some roads that go down to the river in the Tanna Valley state forest, is there boat launches there. How far a run from Nenna to wood river area to were Zone 2 opens up. Thanks Steve

I loaned my maps to someone yesterday.  But can't you put in on the Chena in two different locations and isn't there even a state launch on the road that goes between the college and Fred Myers?  I launched there when I drove down to Nulato.

The only launches that I am aware of is at Nenana, and Rosie Creek.  Rosie Creek is on Chena Pump Road, quite a way to the Wood from either.  The mouth of the Wood is sometimes hard to find, it breaks up into so many little channels that are not deep enough for most boats.  The area you are talking about is nothing but swamp, an air boat is the only way into that area that I am aware of.  And on opening morning airboats are all over that area.  I went there once and won't go back due to its inaccessiability and the overabundance of air boats.

Hate to sound so negative!  My I make a suggestion?  Once you find an interesting location, go to thye map department at UAF, They have satallite photos of most of Alaska.  You can really tell a lot about an area from those photos.  You don't have to buy the photos just to look at them.  All the pot holes and swamps really show up on those.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
