On a whole NEF 17HM2 accuracy?
« on: August 20, 2006, 08:27:18 AM »
OK Having owned H&R's of many sorts, but not rimfire, what is out of the box accuracy running in the 17 HM2  models?

My Savage 93 in HMR gives 100yd, 3/4" all day, several brands of ammo.  Can I expect that with the NEF 17HM2?

Honesty, please and what, if any mechanical problems have you had.

My Sportser M2 shoots right at 1¼" @100yds, but I only have less than 100 rounds thru it with Hornady and Rems, have some CCI, but haven't shot it yet. If it's like the rest of my .17s, it will take some more shooting to get the best accuracy out of it.

My Sportster Hmr will shoot pretty nice groups, but I always seem to get a flyer out of the group, it was bought used from a fella that could only get 3" groups with it, I honed the latch shelf for better engagement and touched up the crown. Shot this group with it Wed.

Both are bull barrels, that's the only way they make em in Hmr or M2......so far!! They are a bit muzzle heavy with the syn stock, FWIW.

My Sportster has all 3 barrels .22LR, .22 Mag & HMR; the HMR being the only bull barrel.
If I had a choice, they would all be bull barreled...the HMR being so MUCH MORE accurate..
Personally, I like the forward weight bias of the bull barrel..believe it is a major factor in the superior accuracy, particularly in the field...
