At 4,200fps a 55gr HP will be stable to at least 100 yards out of a 1 in 17 twist barel. I know this because I had built a slow twist 22-250 with a 1 in 17 barrel. It really liked the 40gr Barnes VLC's (now out of production) and would launch them at better than 4,500fps. I have a bullet stability calculator here if you want to play with it. It does require you have Microsoft xsel (the spread sheet program) on your computer. Slow twist barrels are really fun to play with, best accuracy is gotten with a bullet that is just barely stable, so some amazing results can be obtained if you do it just right. RoperI have slugged the barrel and it is a .224 , this one of the reasons that i picked this barrel for the project .H&R has a habbit of oversizing their bores and this time it works in my favor .
Just not true, a 22 mag Handi barrel is .224 groove, I have two inches of one sitting on my desk and have measured it several times, even pushed a barnes varmintathor .224 bullet through it just to make sure. Larry
