How about a forum for outdoor activities in the Carolinas?  Hunting, when the fish are biting on what.  Good places to camp.  Etc......

How many of us North Carolinians are there here at GBO?   I like the idea but am not sure if we have enough folks living in the Carolinas and or Virginias combined to really warrent it.

Good luck. I hope it pans out.

There are now enough votes to set it up but I'll need a moderator first. Any volunteers?

The Bible Study/religious forums are pretty slow anyway and I think William & Dee have things pretty well in hand over there.   So if there are no other takers I'll moderate the Carolina Outdoors forum Bill.

I don't understand why the person who started it has not stepped up to the plate. He has not been here since 4-3-07

I am from Morganton and used to hunt some local farms and lands growning up. I now live in Florida. Most any December you will find me in the linville gorge or camping and hikeing some where around there.

I've been hunting in the McDowell ,Burke and Rutherford County Area. I'm going to try a new strategy this year, instead of hunting big open areas and sitting there all day and seeing hardly any deer, I'm going to hunt the thick stuff, any suggestions on where would be a good place to try this way of hunting.

Merhunts, I like to hunt where open hardwoods meet pine thickets. It has worked well for me.

Greg916 Thanks for the info. My Dad shot a big Eight point last year and come to think of he was hunting the edge of a pine thicket. there was a creek bottom separating the pine thicket and hardwoods. We were in tree stands. we are keeping hunting journals now so we can keep up with what is going on.

I have been in a club with land leased in McDowell (where I live) and Rutherford counties for the last 2 years.  Killed a couple, let a couple more walk, saw a lot of does that weren't legal at the times.  The land got sold, the lease is up in the air, nobody knows what is up.  Decided to bag it there.  I just joined a club in South Carolina, near Gaffney.  Hope that works out better.  I saw more deer walking around last saturday than some full weeks hunting here in NC.

Would that happen to be on Huntsville Mountain in Glenwood. If so, I was on the same hunting club, We were told to get our treestand off the land when hunting season was over 2006 the land was sold and thats all we were told, don't know anything else.

Don't know if it is the same one or not.  Mine was the Double T hunt club.  Nice folks, decent rules, just no info for this year.  In SC, deer season opens for rifles on august 11th, at least in zone 6.  That is in the tidewater area in the south.  Runs til jan 1st.  Even a blind squirrel should find an acorn or two in that length of time!

Hi to all ,.. i haven't hunted as yet down here in NC an hope to this year,.. seems not to much going on here in Hampstead.. everyone seems to live further away like up in Hickory... etc,.5-6 hrs.,  haven't been able to hook up with anyone i've met so far, they either play golf or not to interested in firearms, move here in 2004, guess it takes time ... plenty of fishing here but would love smell some gun powder once in awhile.... :)

sounds like a good idea to make something happen, maybe a get together  ???  of some kind ..!
anyone live down this way near Wilmington, Hampstead area .. ive shoot up at the Flatwood range in Hubert/Jacksonville for the past 2yrs. but i just  heard they'll be closing down in Feb, nice place, friendly people, to bad...  was only an hour trip for me

never pan'd out,  we then look at a home off of 40, can't remember exactly where, it was awhile ago, all i remember it was on a semi-paved road an there was a farm across the way with a small pond in front.... Oh Well  ;)

If you want to use 120 grain bullets with a .308 case, you'll get better performance if the  diameter is 6.5mm; ie get you a .260 if you want lighter bullets!
