What's the best thing to use for a badly fouled barrel?


picked up a used rifle (308 cal) that has lots of copper in it.  What to do??

I'd say try Barnes CR-10 or Outers bore foam cleaner.

Well, to tell the truth I shoot a Springfield XD so it doesnt really matter.

I use Sweet's 7.62.. It really removes the jacket metal fouling.. Follow directions carefully and as an added benefit it gets rid of any corrosive primer fouling from old militarfy ammo.. good luck..

The most effective thing is PCB etchant solution. Trust me, you don't want to use it. The next most effective item would be a reverse-electroplating thingamajig, like the Foul-Out. My copper fouling issues are mild, so I use ammonia. 3% works fine for me.

I love the FoulOut machine but in cases where the fouling is really bad even they reccomend that most of it be removed via standard methods.. It takes long enough as it is!

without a single doubt, WipeOut is the best, bar-none, copper remover that I have ever used. Used properly, the stuff is amazing, and it is non-corrosive toward the barrel. It can bubble finish, so you must use care in that department. Also, it is not inexpensive. Midway carries the stuff and it is easy to roder from them. Tom Purdom
