Sorry sport there isn't a best brand. There are lots of lure makers that make good lures.I've caught fur on Lenons,Grawes,O'Gormans,Fur Country,Hawbakers,Halseths,Laugeman's Nelson Formula,Carmans and lures and baits I make my self.I know I've missed some lure brands I've caught fur on,on this list.I'm having a relapse of C.R.S.(Can't Remember Stuff)
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Yotero, ive had same  results and as far as your C.R.S. problem.  Ive done extensive research into that problem  on Wacky Quacker and it comes from the lack of eating enough walleyes!    :o  !  So you know what you have to do.... ;D

Not that I recommend using one lure for all animal species but I do believe that the Fox Super All Call and Fox Super Range All Call will stop most any animal passing by.  :)Ace

The best lure to use is location.   Make your set dead on location and you will be surprised how easy the catches come.

While well formulated lures are a decided advantage and important factor in trapping any animal species, you are right about the location Old Coon. Too many trappers try to compensate for poor set locations by overusing lures and trying one lure after another. For example, I would rather have an unlured dirthole set inches from an animals travelway with no lure at all than a set lured with my best lure 100 feet off the travelway. Many times over the years I have received calls and letters from trappers stateing "I have tried umpteen lures and none of them were any good and then someone recommended your lures." I've never said it but one of these days I am going to break down and tell them save your money, don't bother ordering from me either as my lures will not likely work for you either. Ace

Deffinitely agree with Ace and OldCoon. You can have the best lures and baits, but if you are set in a place where nothing is traveling, you might as well forget it. Ive caught coon at fox sets, fox at coon sets, fischer and skunks at all sets. The lures and bait are to get there attention, but you can't call them in from 10 miles away. Concentrate on location, location, location.

It is hard to argue the location thing and I agree 100%   But I recall back in the 70s when I purchased a bottle of lure that was recomended by lots of users. Key word there maybe lots of users?
I won't go into brands, but I can say that it was a well know brand and I believe still made today. At least the maker still makes lure not sure if that particular lure is in his cataloge. Anyway I made several sets on my line using what I thought would be a sure thing coon lure. As the name of the lure implied. I can't say why that particular lure didn't work for me but I can say that it didn't. After a few days with no hits on the sets lure with that brand lure. I relured using something different and had hits the next day. Now maybe with different weather different location I might have made a haul??
I'm not a lure maker not even as hard core a trapper as many on this site. I have however spent at least a few days or more trapping something each fall, since the mid 70s. Most years I try at least one new lure on my line if it's a longer line. I've found I have brands of lure that work for me year after year and others that just never seem to hit.
This is not to say that any particular brand of lure is better than another. Just that the lures I use work for me the way I use them and under the conditions I use them in.  It used to be there were a lot of trappers here my line mixed and crossed with several other trappers.  There were guys spreading a lot of the same brand lure everywhere trying to catch the same critters. That is something that has changed from back in the hay days as some call them.  I know I was always trying the so called odd brand or off brand lures back then. When I found a lure I liked I kept that a secret.
When people ask what lure I was using of course I told them the same brand lure that I knew many others where using LOL. Or at least thats what everyone said they were using?????
I say experiment on your line with lures from the guys that been in the business for years and you'll find a keeper.  Check out and test the new comer and off breed lure brands and you might find a jewel.  All I know is that I'm glad I had more than one lure brand in my pack. When I could no longer get my O.L Butchers to use I could have cried. Lucky for me my #1 brand was and is still being made by someone who sometimes post on this board.
I know I will keep testing and look for lures that work on my line the way I trap. You never know when your favorite brand will just be gone.

and that's my rambling on it all  lmao!

Appreciate the post Mac.  I was wondering. I have very limitted experience but found that the foxes in my areas seem to respond to one very popular lure makers formula (based on animals in traps) while showing only a passing interest in another very popular lure maker's formula (based on tracks in the snow turning toward the set and then moving on...     Perhaps different smells appeal to different animals, in different areas?

One doesn't want to confuse the difference in better lures vs a poor quality lures ability to entice passing animals to work a set with a lures ability to call animals long distance. Well formulated lures placed at sets in proper locations will get a lot more attention than those lured with marginal or worthless lures. However, the best lures ever made will not do much to compensate for poor set locations, one must learn to place sets as close as possible to animals travelways.  Ace
