AR 15 or Socom11
« on: August 22, 2006, 01:33:11 PM »
I am thinking about getting a rifle to shot a t the range. I am looking at the AR 15 and the Springfiels Socom 11. Can anyone tell me which is the better rifle in the long run? I have heard that the AR's like to jam if they get the least bit dirty that is something I don't care to have. Then again 308 is very expensive compared to 223. Need some expert help with this one.

AR15 is definitely cheaper to shoot. Won't get 'dirty' at the range.  Military has now used them for over 40 years. Tons of extras and add-ons with new stuff every day.  My son (82nd airborne) puts his butt on the line with an M4 - no complaints. Then again, he's backed up with an M249 (SAW) and a 240B (FN .30 cal).

Socom II is a short, neat variation of the MIA.  Personally, I have more 'fun' shooting the .30 cals.  Whatever floats your boat.  It's all relative.
