This is the scope I'm going to put on my Remington model 700 in 280 Rem. I'm going to buy it from SWFA too. Last I knew they were a sponsor of GBO. I already have a Leupold mount and rings on it. Good luck!  :)

Personally, I wouldn't buy that scope, or any scope, from SWFA. They got a website address that is very similar to www.theopticzone.com.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to find out that SWFA did this to divert business from Jon at the optic zone.

Again, that scope is not only expensive, but not an ideal match for his intended purpose.  In any event, Jon could get him that scope anyway.

I strongly recommend the Bushnell Elite 4200 in 2.5x-10x-40mm.  This scope would be almost perfect for his use.

And I strongly recommend that all of our members buy their products from Jon at theopticzone.  Their service and prices is the best I have found anywhere.

In 1960 I thought a 4X scope was all that was needed on my .270.  Then I bought a second .270 and I topped it with a 2.5 X 7 power scope.  That worked great and it still wears that scope.  My original needed an upgrade and it came in the form of a 3 X 9.  Ninety-nine percent of the time the scopes are set as their lowest power but on occasion they get cranked up to a higher power.  The topography and vegetation varies so much where I hunt that I like the flexibility of a variable scope.

When it came time to scope a new .270 I put a 2.5 x 10 x 44 mm on it.  I never thought the day would come when I would crank it up to 10 power on deer but it did.  I had three Mulies feeding on a hillside.  They were over 250 yards away.  I cranked the scope up to ten power.  The largest buck was walking downhill and it seemed the cross hairs were moving all over.  But the high magnification allowed me to place the shot on the button.  The cartridge and the sight picture allowed me to make the shot.  It would have been a more difficult shot with a 4X scope.

I found years ago that it was a real advantage to be able to sneak into area and watch bucks in a brush field across a canyon.  The disadvantage came when I put down my 8-power glasses and tried to sight on a buck blending into the Mt. Mahogany with a 4-power scope.

I have to agree with Zachary's recommendation of a 2.5x-10x-40mm scope.

Leupold VXII 4-12x40AO with Burris Signature rings would be my choice but that will put you over you limit depending on where you buy.  You could buy a VXII 3-9x40 and Signature rings for under $400.00 easy.  I would rather have the extra power myself though.

I think the 3X9VXII or the 2.5X10Bush. previously mentioned would be great, I like the Eye Relief of
the Leo. better, the 270 is mild, but the CDL is light, not a problem if you keep it in the back of your mind should you go prone or an awkward position, otherwise the Bush. has enough Eye Relief.

I like the 4X12 alot & have used it on one of my Deer rifles, but the self imposed limit is 300 yards here, so the additional power is not need.
