Ruger service...???
« on: August 24, 2006, 07:57:25 AM »
Most of you probably read my thread about having a 5 shooter done. Well.....I decided that is a little out of my reach.  ;D

Now I am thinking of sending my gun back too Ruger to get redone. Has anyone done this? I am at the very least thinking of getting the barrel replaced and possibly an un-fluted cylinder. Anyone know if they will change calibers? Man if they will do a 45LC that would be awesome.

I forgot to add I have a 44 SBH that the previous owner cut the barrel down and didn't ge the front site attached too well.... ::)

Thanks!

I have a .44 SBH that the 7-1/2" barrel had slipped on, I called Ruger and they had me send it back to them with a letter explaining the problem. They said it could take as long as 3 weeks to repair. I got it back in just 2 weeks repaired perfectly and the even sent an additional owners manual to boot. Great Service!

Having a gun converted from one caliber to another is a custom project and it ain't gonna be cheap no matter WHO does it.

Ruger is one of the great companies that stand by their product.  I've had two dealings with them, one with my #1.  The original sight wasn't regulated for higher velocity loads, they sent a new one to me for free.  The other involved my Black Hawk.  I purchased it used, polished all internal parts, did a better than fair trigger job, but sent it back to Ruger because the cylinder didn't index properly when cocked.  They returened it quickly, but replaced all internal parts that had been "fixed."  Ruger stands by their stuff, but for what you are asking is more in line for a custom smith as stated previously.

I talked with a service consultent at Ruger and they are more then happy to work on the 44. Probably replace the barrel and reblue but I will send instructions to do what ever it takes to fix the site. Very reasonable considering too.

They will not change calibers as that would be customising. Now I just wish it didn't cost an arm and a leg to ship. next day air is a killer! :'(

there service dept is pretty good. As was said they will not change calibers thought. One other thing to watch is dont send any gun with non stock parts. I sent my sp101 to them because the ejector was skipping over cases and they took all my trigger parts out because i had an action job done on it. I wasnt to pleased!!
