All H&R rifles with few exceptions, have long throats, but they still shoot good with factory ammo or handloads, most who handload will try to reach the lands, depending on the bullet weight, some can, most can't with the lighter bullets. Those that can't, usually load to SAAMI COL and don't have any problems achieving an accurate load. If the search function was working, you could find bunches of threads relating to long throats, it's a question asked often. too often!!
The standard contour barrels shoot well in all calibers, the superlights in .223 and Hornet also shoot well from all reports here, not so with the .243, although it can be made to shoot well, it's just not so easy.
I'm with Lives2Hunt, if you have an exceptional shooter, don't get rid of it, you'll kick yourself down the road, it's a common regret here among Handiholics!!
